this would have been awesome, with different tonality and it's also slanted...

It's actually not slanted, it was taken on a slope so the horse for example is facing slightly uphill. Same as the wooden fence in the background is sort of climbing up towards the right hand side of the picture and the tree on the right side is leaning slightly to the left, all of wich sort of creates the feel that its slanted.

As for the tonality, furry muff. I played with a variety of alternatives, both b&w and colour and in the end i landed on this one, i was trying to achieve a sort of a dreamy look and i thought it worked out ok and i'm personally happy with the end result so we're simply going to have to agree to disagree ie. works for some, not for others.

I appreciate the feedback though. :)

Oh my bad, I thought there was a lake/river in the background and I was wrong, it's a fence lol. Fair play, nice shot still, I would love to see a bit more of the tree. Do you have the original RAW file? I'd love to have a go at it!

I know its not slanted per say but I get what he's saying. Even if its on a hill the background shows that same angle, so the human eye for someone not knowing of the terrain is drawn straight to the tree horizon line which is slanted..I like the photo, but sometimes we must photoshop tilt things that can be distractions, and this one's an easy fix. You probably want a straight horizontal line from the rear and front of the horse's feet, or the background fence line to be straight.

Anyway, this is something REALLY minor, but sometimes its the minor things that can detract more than a major thing (like a naked guy streaking in the background).

I like the horse photos keep them coming.

Great picture. Would've been even nicer if the foliage in the foreground had been all around the picture, more less like a frame but it's very nice the way it is. I assume you used a star filter. What was the brand and what's your opinion on it?? I just want to buy one and don't have any clue if it's worth money and which one to choose.

Thanks, guys - I was excited about the way that shot came out. Yes the exposure was 30 seconds at an ISO of 200, and aperture was f/8.

Captain Oats: No filter was used. The lens was a Canon ef-s 15-85mm.

Funny, since I got my dslr I find myself "scouting" out locations. "Ooooh, I wanna come back at night and shoot that." or "That's gonna look great when the light is better."

I may need professional help. :wanker:

Its not easy Damien, and if it wasnt so out of focus you could have cropped in quite a bit to put it into the lower third.
    Just keep on at it.
With dogs (especially my Springer) you just dont know where they are gonna go and you get LOADS of wasted ones to the one or two decent ones.
Its more difficult than photographing motorsport.
