PCTHUG About how much money in do you have in lighting for those big building shots? Just curious.

 

The warehouse part of the building had skylights, so a little ambient light. I lit the girl with 2 Bowens lights (and brollies) powered by a innovatronix explorer power pack.
I used a slow(ish) shutter speed to allow more light into the camera to bring detail into the background.

 

Nothing special, just quick phone shots. Snow is almost gone and summer is coming!

Too much light dull them down a tad please then repost them.

Apart from that they look spot on.

 

i think it would've been better for shots 9-11 if you hadn't cut out the window mold from the top and sides. to me at least, it feels weird because i can see the bottom one but not the above.
especially for number 11 since you included bottom, left and right but not the top.


other than that, good model. seems like she wasn't shy or afraid of trying stuff out.

ok guys been messing with studio again and have no models at this moment in time.. so ive been playing with hair lights. i used umbrella softbox type things and im not sure if its the best solution but please let me know if you think thier is enough hair light or not ??

ps tonight i have to go do some studio work for a X girlfriends party.. its a sluts and slappers fancy dress ) cant wait alot of single women and one guy yeh now where talking lol

 

They were actually a little darker and i lightened them to look this way.
Have a go if you want and post one up to compare it.

The window frame top was quite high up, and made her smaller in the photo, so i shot it like this instead.
It may look better with no frame, but i wanted to capture the blood drips too.

lol i think it was a complete fail i just dont have the right gear to do this quiet yet :/ i have a 3 light setup.. 2x300w strobes + 46" reflector and two 70cm softbox umbrellas which aint that large...i need a studio backdrop 3x3 meter, snoot, and a few other bits but cant afford quiet yet

heres a few shots... i need alots more practice. all single person shots are as follows main light lowest output and back light 1/4higher... for group i had to try and make my little light source fill the room so i spread my lights and cranked them up 100%

 

They are not too bad Damien, not perfect, but i bet they are far better than the mobile phone snaps these girls normally see of themselves.

The BG isnt too bad either. I can see some dodgy masking in a few and a little too much PP but other than that well done on your first assignment.

A 3 light set up is fine for these types of portraits, you just need to learn to use them. That is done by trial and error and a little reading.

BTW, i have seen worse shots by 'so called' professionals.

 

Something about the lighting bothers me. It appears there is one light is really low so the area around the eyes are kinda dark? I have yet to try any type of studio stuff, so I can't really help T_T I don't like pictures where there's too much shadow on the face though.

Someday I'll pick up a ringflash or ring adapter for a flash to try studio stuff out. I like the diffused light that comes from that kind of setup.

 

See i look at that and think the rear hair light is too strong and is leaking onto the guys forehead and cheek (not really a problem, but its a tad too bright), and its creeping into the frame. They shouldnt have photographed the skirtingboard either.
