    I would just say ... good luck trying to go through the LUKS locked BackTrack USB key I have and when I pull my Macbook's HDD then :p

    Truecrypt is good, I used it a couple of times. Avoid Sophos enterprise encryption.

    National health service I work for is now got to encrypt all portable devices, Due to clumsy professionals leaking patients details and medical records. If US officals get access to patient details without NHS content the person that owns the laptop gets a whopping £50,000 fine.

    Yup, TrueCrypt is pretty good, I use LUKS (part of Linux) to lock my USB key so in order to boot it, I must supply it a password during its boot sequence.
