Hi all, just read the sticky on speaker placement. Rather interesting. I'm using onboard sound, and games and music sound ok to me. But I like everything to work as it should. When I do a speaker test the front, back and centre speakers sound okay. The subwoofer, however, isn't sounding. The twin speaker that is the centre speaker sounds for centre test and subwoofer test. I have Logitech 530 speakers. The Asus onboard sound is Via VT1708S 8-channel high defenition. I have the setup on 6 channel and that is 5.1 surround sound. Is this sound normal, or should the subwoofer sound when the test reaches that graphic on the test application.
you should hear the sub also..try finding an option called swap center/sub and make sure its off..if it was off then i recommend turning it on.
Thanks xSoriNx, The Via HD audio deck has two tick boxes. One is Center/LFE Swap, The other is Speaker Fill. I tried both off, one off, then vice versa then both on. The subwoofer is still on strike. The test sound still comes out of the center speaker for center and subwoofer.
ugh...have you tried plugging the center/sub jack in a different place? i remember with my brothers pc he has onboard sound and i need to plug the center/sub in a different place not where it should be normally..he has an old motherboard tough..
I wont try that till tomorrow. But, looking at it from a mechanical point of view, would a plug swap mean that the subwoofer, if plugged into the centre speaker spot, sound twice instead of the centre speaker sounding twice?
oh nvm...my brother had rear sattelite problems not center/sub ..sorry, you could try reinstalling the drivers see how that works..if it doesnt work maybe someone with more sounding skills than me can help you out
Big Sorry!!!! Speaker test wasn't using woofer. Found an equalizer and slid the bass up higher than other stuff. Bass works in music and games. All okay. I feel I wasted a bit of time, so sorry again, and thanks for trying to help me.
Wait, wait a minute. Now you do not have normal bass unless all your low frequency sliders are up on the EQ? That is not normal...It just seems like your subwoofer is either turned down as some audio devices have seperate sliders for every channel or possibly your bass redirection is off. Does your center channel work as it should? Did you have bass and all the sudden it just vanished or did you really not have much bass on that onboard?

The pic, or the link is the current setting. I could use a better setting, but the Logitech 530 is a basic 5.1 setup. It is only worth $100. (US or Australian) I just tested a song with a lot of bass and it comes through very well. The Bass Management section doesn't make much difference at all. Also, the placement of the subwoofer is difficult. edit: Centre seems fine.
Yes as I said...bass level the sub has it's own control on the sub itself and many times the source will als have controls for level. Onboards are just weird and your bass redirection should be working....should be very noticable when it is one or off.
Can you test your bass signal. Put on some music with the sub cable connected and then disconnect the sub cable and see if the bass level has changed at all.
There is a bass adjuster on the on/off switch. Musta forgot it was there. I turn it up and down and the bass is very loud when up. No. I cant unplug the bass because the subwoofer box is also the output to all the satellite speakers. And it is X-540 not X-530. (Not that it would make a difference. Anyway, the bass is definitely there if I turn it up. Thanks for the input. (You made me look at things and find things.)
I do not mean unplug the entire sub, just the signal cable from the soundcard. Anyway, if you think it is ok...then leave it be.
One could probably get something like this if the 1/8" plug is not properly connected. Both signal leads on the "card" touching lead of one speaker on the cable, and nothing connecting to the other lead. If the signal from subwoofer channel does come out of the center speaker, then increasing the signal will surely not remove that connection? On the other hand, if the connection to subwoofer was barely there, a stronger signal could get through creating impression that subwoofer "works".
