Nvidia 267.52 drivers are killing GTX 590s

Where is the proof it was a driver problem?

Looked more like a power issue to me, but what do I know. You see the power light come on briefly, the fan spin down then the card fry's. /shrug

 

Where is the proof that the driver "killed" the card?

 

Wait, so the newer driver is designed or coded for the 590? So why would you run an older driver that was designed before the 590 came into existence?

Plus, rage3d is notoriously biased, I mean come on.

 

They found out from nvidia that the ovp did not work in that driver.

 

Well they said "Two graphics card died, and the error is the supplied drivers"... if thats true i want to hear nvidia talking about that issue..

They were overclocking them and they crapped out because protection didn't kick in. If anything everyone should know they're taking a chance when overclocking. So I wouldn't really say its nvidia's fault for them stressing a product beyond design.

Thats why you sould never:
1: Use the drivers from the disk. (download the latest)
2: Overclock a product that was out yesterday and you already own.
To me... it looks more like some power issues with the PSU.

 

I read at anand review that 270 drivers are needed for power protection to work for gtx590...

 

If it was a power issue, why did not the same psu kill the rest of the cards when they used the newer driver?

 

There is no video proof that any other cards where used with that board, and they did say they where over clocking the cards. Sounds like they "The reviewer" messed up quite frankly.

 

They did mess up, they assumed that ocp was working with the driver that came with the box, but you need ForceWare 267.71 for that.

 

Now your assuming, The article states no where that any other cards where damaged EXCEPT the two 590's.

They used an "ALPHA" driver not released to the public. they never checked if it would be ok to over clock with the suppled driver, but went ahead anyway. You see what I'm getting to here, don't you?

Only those of you who have 2 or more 590's installed at the moment need to worry about this issue.

Interesting statement that Anandtech said about the 270's. I do really like the 270.32's. They seem to keep the min fps higher than the others.

Today I'm on the new 267.84's so far and I'm kinda likin' em for Call of Duty Black Ops but might switch back to the 270.32's.

NVidia said they had delayed release of the 590 card cuz of "driver issues". I wonder what those "driver issues" were?

 

Why would any other cards than the 590 be damaged?

The 590 was the only card that did not have working ocp using that driver.

 

is there any way to verify that OCP is working on a card ? I believe the 580 has OCP as well ?

 

yes it was driver fault, now with this latest 267.89 i won't happen because they enabled power limiter in all apps including games.

May I ask why the hell would they supply drivers with the card that doesn't enable power limiter?

This entire fiasco pretty much shows why you never install drivers from the disk that comes with a card.
