So you can see my pc over there under my icon and whatnot.

I'm curious if it's worth haveing 8gb of ram and if I will see any difference in games and whatnot?

    I'm running Windows 7 (64bit)

    Thanks. :)

Look at the taskmanager, if you are using more then 90% then yes, else no.

I think even if you have 100GB of ram for some reason windows will still create a page file on your hard drive for some files. What I would do is either delete the page file or setup half of your ram as hard drive and set your page file on that.

gta4 likes lots of ram - 6gb is ideal... otherwise yea 4gb is enough.

More VRAM is generally much more useful for games but more than 1GB is really only needed in certain games and even then only when heavily modded with high res texture packs and such. I had to remove a 2GB landscape and foliage texture pack from Crysis as I was running out of VRAM. Though of course some of the next gen games coming out like Skyrim could change this...

One scenario where more than 4GB System RAM is needed is when running a DX9 games under 32-bit OS because a duplicate of the VRAM contents is made in system memory. But again unless you are running crazy high res textures and such you still shouldn't run out of memory.

yes, how many people run just a game and NO background programs?

more ram for windows 7 64bit = better.

Depends on your rig's setup ... personally I run a **** loads of VMs, that's the reason why I have 8 GB. Most people on Guru3D don't really need more than 4 GB of RAM.

If you really feel like spending money get a SSD to instal games on. Especially open world games should get a huge boost loading areas in the bg

Only game i know where more RAM makes sense is ArmA2. You can make a ramdisk and load all pbo resources from there when starting the game. Gets rid of all hic-ups & lags.

Having more than 4GB on a 32bit OS is pointless as the OS can't address the additional memory without enabling PAE to do so, which could cause stability issues.

LOL, cant believe anyone would think in this day and age that a 32bit OS can make use of more than 4gb ram.

It can, but not directly. Certain ramdisk software products can use the RAM above the 4GB barrier on a 32bit OS. Whether your game can use this ramdisk is another story though.

Nope. Even in vista 64 bit I have NEVER gone over 3.5gb in gaming. I have a fallout 3 config that used 1450mb of VRAM, it would also make your 460 run at 5fps...........but it still only maxes out at 3.5gb system ram incl vistas 1.8gb hogging.

If you are not changing your rig anytime soon, I will suggest to buy the new set...
