I need to come up with a business proposal for this class, and I'm currently studying software engineering. I realized something: Out of all the computer geeks I've known in my life, out of all my class and the years above, there are literally 2 people that I know who look the way I do: Ripped, 6 or 8 pack and built. Seeing as how in Canada Geek Squad and Mac geniuses are EXTREMELY overpriced, I figured: "Hey, why don't we make a business that is more affordable for the common peoples?" Mind you, I had one going prior to starting school and it was getting me 200 a week...and as you guys know, fixing computers 99% of the time is running a program/format in the background while you are playing games (unless you somehow have some guy that has a bios error, then that's wtfbbq time). Then! Another idea came to mind: why don't I restrict all customer service individuals (that have to actually meet customers) to people who are geeky, know their ****, AND RIPPED! Bad idea? Good idea? I know the females would like it, but how do the males feel?
Marketing ploy. Goes against the stereotypical geek idea. EDIT: I mean come on, we know nerds can't socialize, and are usually skinny or fat, there's no one in the middle (or very very few). My question is, would anyone males feel UNCOMFORTABLE having a built, social guy be fixing their computer?
I think you'll have more problem finding ripped guys who are going to fix computers for you. Sure there might be one or two, but must be a small business.
It is, it's a group presentation but I wanted to see if we could actually implement this on a local scale.... Or maybe I can get the nerds to hit the gym.
The marketing ploy sucks. Why would they trust the macho looking guy over the nerdy looking guy when it comes to fixing computers? Everybody knows real nerds don't spend loads of time at the gym ergo they will think you are not dedicated to your nerding career. I think the marketing effect is quite the opposite. I'll take a fat ass, nerd looking, mothafuker over any ripped dude to fix my stuff.
I could actually see this working to be honest with you. I think what some of the 'people' in this thread are failing to realise, is that sex-appeal works on women also, not just on men. There are a hell of a lot of women out there that might catch onto that idea if the guys are attractive enough. Funnily enough I was having a discussion with a friend via email not so long ago regarding her locale tech choices, I living at a fair distance away at the moment being unable to help. She literally made a joke regarding the want for "Hot tech support guys" - and she'd be the first to admit to being drawn to a team of staff like that over the common stereotype. As for the "Hot Chicks" comment - honestly? I can see this sort of ploy working for women far more than men. Blokes in general tend to try and fix things themselves, whether they're equipped to do so or not. Women are more likely to admit the need for help in my experience.
Ridiculous about covers it. And i think you'll find more physically fit people on here than you will "fat geeks", haha.
Avoid stereotyping in any business module; it's a bad idea and tends to lead to lawsuits. As for all geeks are fat or skinny, that's a crock of #*$! - I am 6 1" 186 lb and before a sports injury I could bench my own weight. Due to that injury I can't lift weights anymore, but I have retained the same "athletic" look. Of the two people I know personally that are as good or better than I am at fixing computers, one is overweight, but the other is in great shape. Don't believe the movies that show every geek as being 5'6" 250 lb of blubber with 5 days stubble and 1968 glasses.
You'll end up running a male escort service for women who want a guy with a high IQ. Generally women who want that also want kids, which is going to create a hellish problem for you.
mfw "class, have you ever wanted a muscular PC tech?" this is the type of idea that always forced me to be so bossy when doing group projects at school...always had to have veto power
