This is now your new bible: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting Basically, first you need to get some wood by chopping down trees. Then turn them into planks in the inventory 2x2 workbench. Then craft a workbench so that you can craft actual pickaxes and other work items. Before the first night you want to gather coal and wood and make torches out of them. Also craft/dig a shelter so that the monsters can't get to you.

I think I helped you many many times enough to have some comprehension from you when I really don't feel for it (like yesterday).
