Well I got it anyway. It seems like most of the issues aren't really that big of a deal. And it's only $40.

I did notice on my very short play of it that it does seem to utilize cpu and gpu very poorly.... i had 60fps everywhere apart from when i went into a small town, then it dropped ro like 29.

I tested at all graphics settings and reso settings, it was no different on any of them... still though, im not about to download a 400mb patch if the game is ****e to start with lol

Played it for a little while now, there's quite a few players already despite the size of the island(s) so you always see a number of people racing around, there also seems to be AI characters whom display in a similar manner but in different color and without a rank and other details visible.

Selection of cars is apparently a bit basic but there's some variety with the few brands they did manage to license (Budget was a huge issue for this apparently.) so overall there's a nice number of cars and a lot of extra DLC are also planned. (There's five or so pre-order vehicles and that casino mode extra already.)

Thankfully the social aspect is very much in the background though it's still a requirement for certain rankings so it's not just racing this time and unfortunately the racing is a bit basic in how the cars handle and function though it's not full arcade either and you can toggle the assist mode most of the time (Aside from when trialing for new licenses and such.)

Dynamic weather and progression is also nice but requires you to be connected to function though nearly all of the game can be played offline if so desired and online interactions can be restricted via a few options as well though going from online/offline in a existing profile can be difficult.

Runs pretty well though some areas are pretty taxing despite the relatively simple visuals (Aside form you and other players race cars.) sounds are OK as well though I'm not sure how realistic they are and they are pretty quiet as well, voice acting and cutscenes are pretty bland and badly acted though it works and it's not the main focus of the game.

All in all it's a interesting game though a bit more relaxed and social instead of being a full racing simulator or how to describe it, haven't explored the island area much at all either though I've found a variety of locations, housings, car dealers, customization shops and so on already.

Request a new password and info Bigtime, then set the new to something really simple (123456 perhaps, think it had to be six characters min.) and after logging into the site change it from the profile preferences and verify it works and then use the account name and password to log-in from the game. :)
    (Not the display name.)

Also if it's Steam (Or any other pre-order bonus.) don't forget to redeem the DLC key via their site (When logged in.) to unlock the extra items and tie them to your account.

Bought the game last night from Steam at midnight and took two hours to download. I tried the game for an hour despite being at work this morning. I'm pleased with the game thus far, seems entertaining enough even if the visuals are a little cartoonish (but solid and pleasant nevertheless). Draw distance is good with very little obvious pop in. Runs at 60 fps here at 1920x1200 on Very High settings with 8xAA and (forced through the control panel) 16xAF. Enabling triple buffering though through D3DOverrider seems to cause the game to hang.

Despite the solid framerate, the game can feel oddly laggy at times, occassionally while driving (yet the framerate always shows 59-61 fps) but mostly whilst walking around where my character feels bizarrely heavy, like I'm controlling a tank or something!

Also when I start the game, after the annoying delay on the launcher while it tests the network connection, it starts in windowed mode right up to the title screen, which loads pig-ugly, thanks to not using my saved settings. It's only when I press Start on the controller that the game switches to fullscreen mode and my graphics settings and resolution are applied along with the game resuming from where I left off.

Is that the same for everyone else? Why the hell doesn't the game switch to fullscreen mode straight away when it starts loading like EVERY other game does?!?

Is it me or do the NPC cars look worse than they did in the first? Even at max settings it looks like I'm driving around toy car town, a feeling that only disappears if I spot a real racer driving around.

I just wish the twitchy car controls were sorted so I could cruise around comfortably as I did in the first. Then just break out whenever I want.

AA doesn't seem to work that well even on x8. Performance could be a lot better also as even when I'm in character mode the game often dips a lot. Early days I know but I just hope Eden are on the case.

    Yeah, same here.

After actually playing for a bit, the game definitely isn't bad at all and is quite fun. You really get the feeling of being in a large open world. Handling isn't an issue when you get off the god awful starting cars (or just upgrade them once, makes a giant dif for some reason).

Alt-enter at that window and it'll start in fullscreen though it seems to use a low resolution initially before it has begun loading in profile specific information.

Launcher is a bit slow as well as you mentioned while it does that NAT check and firewall and whatever else. (Plus tries to check that DXSetup web redist it downloads.) unfortunately the game can't be launched directly.
(All those settings are stored in the registry so it wouldn't need to constantly check.)

    EDIT: Various DLC items.

If you ask me that aspect helps differentiate the game from all the other me-too racing games on the market. I love just driving around with the radio blaring out and checking out the scenery and discovering new shops, etc. It's very relaxing. I also enjoyed the car delivery missions in the first game on the Xbox 360 but I haven't really come across any of those yet in this game (I've only just completed the first C4 license test).

To be honest, the actual racing isn't that great in this game which is why I never played the original online except to try it initially. I doubt I'll play this game online either; in fact I intentionally disabled the online functionality but, annoyingly, you can still see other people's avatars in the shops (annoying because there's a dozen other people that look identical to your character; how about some facial customisation options, Eden?). :3eyes:

Did you solved the monitor out of range problem with the alt+enter ?

Can you post the handling tweaks you made ? I own a xbox360 gamepad too and i want to try them.
    Thank you!

I played my first two hours yesterday and, appart from the social crap, i can say that i liked the game.

nfshp and tdu are 2 very different things, one is more action oriented and a racing simulator, TDU is more of an open world driving simulator.

i much prefer TDU1 and 2 to any nfs game tbh, never bought nfshp thought it wasn't worth my money when i tried it.
