Hi all, I was wondering if you like the Noise/Full grain/motion blur effect: e.g Silent Hill2, Mass Effect 1,2,3, Dead Space 1,2 and so on. I always turn it off. I just can't see what I am shooting at....or where I'm going to. I just don't like it. What about you?
well the way of it applied in the game is important. i forgot the name a 2003 2004 game..the way of they used the effect was shtty to my EYES..but in ME1 and 2 its good to me..all personal opinion.
I absolutely hate motion blur and film grain in ME1 but I prefer it in ME2 (ME2 doesn't seem to have motion blur, or it's only used in some special cases - looks good).
Small amounts of both are ok. I usually turn the grain off though. Unless I can adjust how much is used.
Only in cutscenes, not during the fricking game. Now if it actually were to look like the real thing, then it would be acceptable.
I always turn such effects Off. I think things like motion blur, noise, grain, fake blurry dof etc make the game look like crap and are generally the first things I disable. Next I increase the FOV. I call it deconsolising. I run an uber rig to have things pin sharp and high resolution. Last thing I want is anyone forcing me to use any kind of method to make my screen anything but pin sharp.
No, and I've never liked it, not even when they added it to Day of Defeat: Source. Also can't stand motion blur, would be good if more games had options to toggle it on or off (and if it was off by default that'd be great). The same goes for HDR.
I only like it if it is subtle, too much motion blur/film grain is annoying... and they usually use it to cover up bad textures! Kane And Lynch 2 was a great example of stupid effects that hinder, rather than enhance the game.
I like it, but only when its uses sparingly, and has thought behind it. Also only used in games that it would work well in, as in something cinematic. I hate that oversharp, clean look in games, makes them cheap and dated looking, like running an old game on a new system, and its the only thing that makes the visuals look have decent in the Left4Dead games.
i like it most of the time; in L4d2 it helps with the mood.. but motion blur is so so, for example it sucks in RE5 or similar games..
depends on the game really, some games overdo it. some games are really awesome with it. like speed effects with racing games for instance.
^ yea i agree motion blur is ok in racing games or as long its not overdone, but in FPS is a no go, Metro2033 @ v.high => crap lol but in something like Avatar or Crysis it looked "ok"
AbjectBlitz generally only plays MP FPS's i believe, and these are games where those effects would/could impair gameplay, but for a SP game with a story, and trying to be cinematic, i think they are essential, otherwise it looks cheap. There are two camps anyway i think... 1-Those who are wanting games to look closer to movies with every new game. 2-Those who want games to look like games but with higher resolution textures.
