You'll obviously going to see all kinds of compression artifacts in dark YouTube videos. Give us unaltered in game PNG. That picture is a horrible mess of compression artifacts.

I have a CRT monitor and haven't encountered color banding in any game.. Any game other than Dead Space 2 that is. My friends who have AMD cards say that they don't have this problem. I think it's a bug with the game/nvidia's drivers.

OK, this is 3rd image. High res. and unaltered.
(Well almost 'cos it's a *.png, and I dunno where to upload uncompressed 6MB *.bmp.)

On my setup there are at least 4 sets of rings in pic above. Not very pronounced, but they are definetly there.

Hit F11 and watch the picture FULL SCREEN please

In the last pic there are way more then 4 rings. From the light emanating from the top following the dark shadow on the right side of the door there are over 12 rings.

What point of the game is this.

Also looking in the ATI forum where people are posting pics there seems to be no banding.

Nono. Not "4 rings". 4 SETS of rings. With each set consisting of multiple rings.

That particular ring set u're referring to is most pronounced, and gives on my setup around 12 rings also. :bang:

The thing is the vote isn't accounting for anything.

Like someone already said the pics are grabbed from the frame buffer, if I can see these rings even on a laptop with an Intel graphics chip then I don't how the people voting they don't see anything is right.

Does your laptop manufacturer specifies 24 bit color display for your model?

Oh, and does the pictures look roughly the same on your desktop and laptop?

Actually, i didn't realize it at first.
The way i read it, i thought you meant that the panels are showing 24bit of colour, instead of 32 and that the problem was that.

Comparing the two the rings are there in both, picture quality wise the desk top monitor (Dell 2405FPW) looks much much better then the laptop (old Dell C610).

So according to nvidia it's a game bug, as it happens with both nvidia and ati cards.

If you want to see this fixed ask the developers to "fix the color banding of the PC version" on twitter: http://twitter.com/deadspace

I don't have a twitter account to do this myself. If nobody reports it, it won't be fixed :\

    UPDATE:

I've heard from ppl with non TN panels saying to me they can see gradient rings.

Also, Nvidia raised dithering issue with EA, but EA has no plans to fix this.
