Can someone tell me: after releasing Sandy Bridge family, Intel will drop the prices for 980 or 970?

Ok, I was going to wait about 18 months for a new PC but these prices are pretty cheap and rediculous so I recon I may build a new one within 6 months depending on mobo prices etc. The 2600k is tempting, but maybe even the 2500k depending on the price difference, as even that was really good compared to the current stuff, and then my dad may get the 2400 to replace his Pentium D 3.4ghz. I was expecting double the price to begin with tbh.

2011 is for dual CPU and more sockets, 1356 will be for Enthusiast and Workstation single CPU market.. CPU and motherboard for the 2011 will cost an arm ( or 2 ).

im just saying because some seem to think, well including me at first, that LGA2011 is gonna be replacement for 1366, but looks like its LGA1356. Agree on the price though, imo even 1356 is gonna be allot of €€€€:nerd:

im talking about both at the same clock in this case 2.8ghz.

I saw that comparison ~2 months ago @ Xtremesystems, it was visible in Cinebench, SuperPI, cpu depended games, etc..

Was a new socket really necessary?

when are the reviews of motherboards coming up? :)

maybe I will replace my aging but still kicking strong C2Q platform (when overclocked it's faster then Phenom II X4 970)

lga 2011 support up to 4 cpu sockets on one mobo, i cant wait to feel 4 xeon SB clocked at 5ghz with 32gb of quad channel, no triple and dual...that's the omen, the end of days, i dont know...it will even handle maxwell quadsli...LOL!!!

Ah no, that's only true for games that are mostly GPU-limited. Granted, current processors have no problem providing enough performance in games but you might like to check out Anandtech's gaming test to get an idea regarding games which are more CPU-limited.

Nice review HH those are some pretty impressive numbers indeed.

Not sure about it being easy to OC to 5Ghz on Air, im pretty sure it wouldn't be a 24/7 clock as temps would no doubt be on the high side. Maybe for a some benchmarking then drop it back down to say 4.5Ghz 24/7 on Air (Which is still pretty good imo)

Water on the other hand i can see 5Ghz 24/7 being a viable option.

I've just recently upgraded to my i7-950 (last week infact, didnt have the power to stop myself) and im still happy i have it, i don't do much in the way of video encoding/transcoding and all that mostly its a gaming rig so i dont feel like im missing out on anything.

I can see me waiting (while still enjoying watching everyone else OC the ****e out of these new chips) for 22nm Ivy Bridge. Not sure when that'll be out, perhaps in 2012 with another new socket lol

    Not impressed.

Lets see what those real ones (LGA2011) have to offer. And that AMD stuff too, still, not likely that I will be the first one to upgrade CPU.

You have a high end class CPU and these new SB cpus are meant for mid end/performance class. wait for 6-8 cores cpu in second half of 2011

Probably since Intel would want to get rid of old stock while they phase out Nehalem.

Probably, considering they did move the placement of objects on the chip and the need to support the built-in IGP (as in not the same core, not just the same die).

Every time a new tech comes out is fast and not needed until like a couple months to a year down the road for most people.

You have a 950 and a 570 which is good, even if you was to upgrade to SB you wouldnt notice anything in your gaming, you would still get the same fps at the same resolution that you play at now,if i was you i owuld wait for the next big release or until your system starts crawling in performance, which i think will be a good while yet.
