I've been shifting through the plethora of video cards on newegg.com, comparing them, getting reviews, benchmarks, ect for a few months now, waiting until the end of the year when most of the prices were supposed to drop. Well the majority of my research was in the ATI cards, which their prices didn't drop.. at all... So... I need suggestions for a Nividia card within the $120 price range, alittle bit more possibly give or take. I'm mainly a gamer and 3D modeler, so keep that in mind, but anything will be better then my horribly overclocked integrated HD 4200 32-bit interface card.. I also usually have my resolution at around 1600x900. -My Build- AMD athlon II x4 630 @3.1GHz 4GB DDR3 1333 ram 530W PSU 21in. Monitor
the lowest end nvidia card I`d recommend is a 460 1gb if your in the US http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=335074 top trader here
He needs to have 100 posts to be able to see that thread. Anyway, PM cowie if you are interested in those used cards, $140 for GTX460 hawk or GTX460 palit sonic pla. is a good deal. If you dont want used one, $120 after MIR is hard to beat. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162058
Geforce GTS450 1GB is in that exact price range for a new card. Should be fine for what you'd be using it for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130572&cm_re=geforce_gts450_1gb-_-14-130-572-_-Product
pm cowie if you do not mind used. I would take a used 460 over a new 450 any day of the week. he is 1 of the top traders on this forum, you cant access the fs/ft thread as you do not have enough posts as stated earlier
GTX460, I would highly recommend 1GB version (might just be 20ish $ price difference, but definitely worth it- 256bit memory interface), if not, just take 768MB one.
As a note, cowie's used cards are all 1GB versions, whereas te $120 after rebate is a 768MB version and as someone said before there's a noticeable difference in performance with the cheaper 768MB card.
For $120 You can probably snag a GTX 260 216 somewhere around here. Either that or a 768mb GTX 460. Either will do you just fine for the time being. Yes there is. I have owned both models and the lesser is a good deal slower than the 1GB model. It's at around GTX 280 speeds, whereas the 1GB model is beyond the 285 by far. Example: According to GPUz it's fillrates and memory bandwidth are such 768MB GTX 460 @ 675/1350/3600 - 16.2 GPixels/s ----- 37.8 GTexels/s ----- 86.4 GB/s (stock) 768MB GTX 460 @ 875/1750/4000 - 21.0 GPixels/s ----- 49.0 GTexels/s ----- 96.0 GB/s 1GB GTX 460 @ 675/1350/3600 - 21.6 GPixels/s ----- 37.8 Gtexels/s ----- 115.2 GB/s (stock) 1GB GTX 460 @ 875/1750/4000 - 28.0 GPixels/s ----- 49.0 Gtexels/s ----- 128.0 GB/s The 768MB model is better for any resolution 1440x900 and lower while the 1GB model is best used at 1680x1050 and higher. The lesser 460 I have is played at 1366x768 and destroys every game I put it up against.
