Currently Everquest looks like it's a single core game, so having a hexacore CPU is pretty pointless. As for Bulldozer, there's always hope that it exceeds the server performance in consumer workload. deltatux
Ok so I guess for now the quad core is probably the best bet for gaming and yeah Everquest Next is gonna be awesome when that comes out I will definitely be looking into that and playing it. Gigabyte, blasphemer! Asus I recommend this board ASUS M4A88T-V EVO I can't recommend a Gigabyte board, as they're more expensive. Alternative Gigabyte board. GA-890GPA-UD3H It's a better board than the EVO but also more expensive. You must take Mosfet cooling into account, as they will get very hot, especially when overclocking. Hot Mosfets will cause instability, so you will need to get heatsinks for them, but then it's always better to get a somewhat better board anyway, and the EVO is pretty good. I really don't want to recommend Asus, as I'm partial to Gigabyte and continue to only buy them. Delta knows all about my Gigabyte fanboyism Ripjaws are excellent value, shame I can't get them from reputable sellers. I really hate how everything is made here but either super expensive or just unavailable :bang: Actually I'm not really into memory tweaking, so it doesn't really bother me that much.
I probably won't be overclocking memory at all or CPU. So that being said. That would cost 299.99$ from Newegg yeah and should be pretty good in terms of performance for all my gaming and what not huh especially with DC Universe Online and Everquest in the future.
Quads will last another few years, as developers are being lazy in their implementation of multi core support. This is why I intend to stick with this lovely CPU for another year or two, at least. I know Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer will bring increases in speed and fps I'm not really that bothered, I'd rather buy a better video card than a new platform. Edit: you don't really need to OC that CPU, at 3.4 it's pretty fast already. I've OC'd mine because EVE is a CPU bound game, especially when I run more than two clients, and I want to gain more points in BOINC.
I was going to recommend the 890GPA board but the ASUS motherboard offered a PCIe x4 slot over a PCIe x1 slot, so the ASUS one won since the prices were the same on NewEgg. Not sure about A-DATA, I'd recommend Corsair, G.Skill, Patriot, Mushkin, and OCZ. deltatux
I do love arguing over Asus and Gigabyte with you I love A-Data, have exclusively used them for years. I have had several sticks break but after 15-20 sticks that's not abnormal. A-Data, like all brands has cheap and expensive modules, it all depends on how much you spend. The one thing everyone seems to agree on, however, is that Ripjaws are the best, if you can get them.
Looks good to me, go back to the ripjaws/flares, better option imo.. Looks like a solid build.. with that setup You can easily run every game even have a good overclocking rig
That's confirmed, my rig is solid overall. Now you have a chance to get a 6870 or higher or maybe even Nvidia. Enjoy it my friend, pair it up with something good and it will last you long like it has for me. Crysis is relatively smooth on Enthusiast settings, as is Bad Company 2 and Black Ops.
