Best optimizer is "properly functioning wetware". It also happens to be the best antimalware out there...

The best one imho is Windows itself cause Win7 is tweaking itself more or less. Today's Computers are so powerful that you don't even notice tweak's. For myself i'm using TU2011 only for quick tweak some personal settings like, Open Menu Delay, Autostart and something like that.

True, but there are some services that even W7 or you as a user don't need. I find turning some of these off can add to faster start times.

Services.msc, regedit, bcdedit, ... no need for tweaking utilities :p

    cleaner is different from optimizer
and how about diskeeper to optimize the hdd
and terra copy to improving copy and move speed?

Yamicsoft Windows 7 Manager all the way. Because without it, Windows 7 can't even use all of the L2 cache that's built into the CPU it runs on... :eek:uch:

EDIT: And Diskeeper 2010 + Process Lasso too of course.

It has no effect afaik. The option is in the registry but does nothing.

That option was for archaic CPU's that had the L2 cache integrated into the ram.

Autotuning isn't optimal but that is another discussion.

Charles site is ok, but doesn't cover the services completely, with that I mean most of them only got the description found in the console.

For service management I recommend making bat files to enable / disable them, sc stop/start, sc config...
Or you can try out IoGameBooster: http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

The best tools for tweaking are cmd, regedit and other things that already are in Windows, why not learn about what you tweak instead of just tweaking it blindly?
Most tweak app's are crap anyway, either they miss stuff or they got ancient tweaks that won't work.
Trust me, I tried them all, testing and scripting your own stuff is much better.

Even on Windows 7 you will get a noticeable improvements with the right tweaks.
At least that is what I think when boot times get reduced further down with 15 seconds, latency gets cut down with 25-40%, fps gets more stable etc.

EDIT: Just found something for desktop fun: http://rainmeter.net/RainCMS/
