On and I7 rig what card should I go for to get the smoothest gameplay experience.
Radeon 6870 Crossfire VS GTX 580

The only thing holding me back from going 6870 crossfire is driver issues and MicroStutter. And supposedly 50 fps feels like 30 on crossfire. Has anyone experience this? I also heard 30fps on a single card feels smoother than 30fps crossfire/sli

Judging form benchmarks, GTX580 is ~50% faster than single 6870. It should suffice to play any game at max in FullHD for a long time. And one card is better than SLI or CF problem-wise. You simply will get less issues with one card. CF won't work on some titles, and sometimes CF doesn't scale so well.

    I would suggest buying GTX580 instead 2x6870.

If you have the money for the 580 and game at 1920x1200, it's the best option. Way faster than one 6870, more reliable than crossfire.

580 and sli in a year two if you feel the need (sound like money is not an issue)

Thank you all, I will definitely go GTX 580. Especially now since I ordered an alienware aw2310 120hz monitor.

well a 6870 performs more or less around the same as a 5850. i had a 5850x2 and went to a gtx580 and im pretty pleased with it so far.

although 6870x2 is slightly faster than a 5850x2, you'd still have to wait a month after a game's release for their to be a new crossfire profile (if they even plan to release one), and i generally dont like waiting to play games.

With nVidia....should you find problems caused by drivers, you simply have to wait several months to get a usable driver....
