Disable Windows Resource Exhaustion Detection and Resolution (RADAR) annoying “Your computer is low on memory” and “Close programs to prevent information loss” dialogs when less than 25% of your RAM is free. This warning would probably be warranted and helpful on systems with a small amount of RAM, but on mine 25% free memory is hardly anything to worry about – it means I have at least 1 GB of memory left.
    1. Click Start, click in the Start Search box, type gpedit.msc, and then press ENTER. MMC will start with the Local Group Policy Editor open.
    2. In the navigation tree, expand Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand System, expand Troubleshooting and Diagnostics, and click Windows Resource Exhaustion Detection and Resolution.
    3. In the console pane, right-click Configure Scenario Execution Level, and then click Properties.
    4. On the Setting tab, select Disabled, and then click OK.
After doing the above steps, you should know that once memory runs out, it is out. You will have no warning. Once your memory gets maxed out, programs will behave very erratic and suddenly crash without warning.

these "tweaks" won't go down well on a site like this, majority of gurus don't see a "you're running out RAM" and similar messages. Maybe for a low spec pc, they can improve things marginally but here, most of us just prefer light tweaking of drivers and what not I'm sure.

I mean come on, things like this
Goal of this mod is high quality texture with fast processing on cards that stay in high-power state. This driver remove jerkiness, fps drops and flickering. Higher visual quality - faster snappier processing feel. make me go :puke2:

Any windows tweak tutorial suggesting to install Adobe products should be reedited tbh. Those products have so many security leaks, its not funny anymore.

Foxit Reader is a good alternative.

Good call on the 3D vision drivers, I was wondering why my GTA FPS was lower lol. Otherwise I didn't even notice it on for some odd reason.

Most of these so called tweaks are completely useless and should be ignored if you have even a remotely decent system. All you really need to do is keep your drivers, DirectX (which most games update automatically anyway) and your Windows up to date and also remember to defrag every now and then. That's it. By installing all of this crap, you'll most likely hog your system and slow it down rather than speed things up, not to mention all of the security risks involved (such as disabling your antivirus before gaming, I mean really?).

Also the op and his "tweaks" seem to completely concentrate on BFBC2 and not much else. The thread should be called "Useless BFBC2 tweaks for people with an ancient system and a dial-up internet connection" or something along those lines...

Just an FYI: the information in this link is 100% wrong, as I posted about 3 dozen times in that thread already. :nerd::bang:

Creative themselves say that CMSS-3D is not "virtual 5.1" and in fact uses more than "5.1" virtual speakers. To use it properly, "headphones" should be selected in control panel, not 5.1. The only reason the 5.1 trick works in Source games is because they use a special proprietary sound engine which overrides Creative's CMSS-3D.

AFAIK, Source is still the only engine which conflicts with CMSS-3D and which must be played with 5.1 setting. Games based on any other engine (ie Unreal, etc) will work perfectly with the headphone setting not 5.1.

Can't say I disagree with you. :boozer:

    BOOKMARKED!

Will have a good read through this guide soon, I am in the process of upgrading my internal HDD and getting an external 2TB storage HDD for movies, music, and photos to help free up some of the space on my PC.

I have x3 30GB SSD's in RAID0 for my main OS (Win7) then a 1TB HDD for games, movies, music, photos. I currently only have 300GB left on my 1TB and 40GB left on my main OS drive. Recently I can feel my system slowing down a little. Even after a complete virus scan and complete system reg clean and defrag it still feels a little slower. I think its my 1TB HDD I have had it for quite some time now (Samsung Spinpoint F1) around 2 years and I have given it quite a thrashing over the time. I think its time for it to retire.

Thanks for this guide Von! Much appreciated!

Admins can we sticky this thread please!

I have always disabled my anti virus before I play a game, its common. As these programs no matter how small or resource light they come they still hog your system down and take up cpu cycles.

for me i never use an anti virus there all rubbish , i guess if u like dodgy porn there is a need otherwise i just dont see the need for anti virus software !

back on topic , i find this type of guide useless on a site like guru3d , its simple for me , buy the hardware capable of playing the game and you wont have to tweak anything , bfbc2 ran flawless on my gtx 275 and my current gpu , i dont see what all the fuss is about

Half of the networking tweaks don't matter though, as most games use UDP and not TCP.

    Von Dach,

My files in \system32 are the same as the version numbers in the BC2 folder, (except D3Dcompiler which is newer in system32)

Does this mean i'm missing an DX update of some sort ?
I already ran the June 2010 redist of DX
