Ok so I bought ECS 460 Black cause it had AC cooling pre-installed, cause I just didnt want to install the cooler as there pain, just like when I install the AC acclero v2 with fans on my 9800gt, which I dont think installed all the stuff right might explain why it idles around 40c and load around 70 in kombuster that or it just runs hotter then the ECS card that loaded at 55c in kombuster, but that besides the point. While I loved the card as it huge improvement over the 9800GT i have from evga which does not buzz or hum at all, the ECS card had some bad Buzzing/humming going on in full 3d games, DX9 being the loudest humm/buzz and DX 11 be the quietest but still noticeable over my fans and across my room, SO I am sending it back and have it replaced hoping it was just bad card some lose capacitors or something or they just weren't solid state choke or high grade capacitors. Any one recommendation on a good cards I could get if the replacement has same issue that wont have this buzzing issues? I could go back with EVGA but I dont like the fan designs one bit cause they always been loud imo either way I might wind up buying the AC cooler they just released either way, but right now I need to find 460 1gb preferable same clock rates or better and have no buzzing when in 3d apps.
I happen to have an EVGA gtx 460 with the stock cooling on it... the single reason that I have kept it after upgrading from an EVGA gtx 260 core 216 is that, even with similar FPS... the 460 is dead silent and 10c cooler than the 260 running the same game. With the side of the case off about a meter from me, I can't hear the vid fan over any other component in the case.
Wow i've never seen that card before. The cooler looks like complete overkill on a card that runs very cool anyway... BUT... I freaking love that. I actually wish i could put 2 of those in my case now! I can tell you that i've used Asus/Gigabyte/MSI 460s and none of them have made any cap buzzing. Maybe you just had a bit of bad luck?
Im hoping it was just bad card, cause I waited for 3 month for this card to become available and hilberts review made it sound like good choice for silence running and cooling, that and the card was 179$ after rebate but the card reviews general don't mention weather the cards have buzzing or humming coming from them. EVGA 9800 card dont do it which why I thought it was the card it self and i'm rma it. Only other thing that could been causing it is the psu and it is brand new 2 months old and it don't do it with the 9800gt. granted 980gt is 1 6pin and 460 is 2 6pin. And yes the AC cooling is over kill but I like it when things run cool, and it not as quiet as the older 6800 AC fans 2k rpm and dead silent that was external exhaust too , so i guarantee that evga cooling solution will be ear sores to me lmao
According to reviews I've seen that pitted EVGA GTX 460 FTW against Sparkle Calibre GTX 460 (Arctic Accelero Twinturbo Pro cooler) the GTX 460 FTW is actually the quieter solution. Edit: But don't get the EE version as it's a bit noisier.
ya im looking at the ftw card, I like to know why there no AR verison with lifetime warranty on them that or I thinking the MSI Hawk
well i wont overvolt to get a overclock so much rather get card already oc and leave it be other then replace the hsf on it depend on how loud or bad the cooling is
@solofly: ya i am, stock both cards are 1.0 and i had to bump them up to 1.025 so i didnt have to move them much and the temps stayed the same. I just set a profile in Afterburner and change them back to stock after gaming. I wouldn't have done it if a higher voltage was required I also got the vrm memory coolers from evga that they use on the FTW but havent installed them yet, dont want to take them apart since they run so cool already....30c idle and about 50 or so in BFBC2
I had the MSI cyclone I couldnt even hear it over my case fans while gaming.....now my 470 thats a different story
You know that there is a Gigabyte GTX460 SOC? 815MHZ/4000MHZ out of the box, with the Windforce2 cooler and probably 4 heatpipes and VRM cooling. I never found the perfect card: - high speeds out of the box - a very good cooler - vrm cooling it's always one of those, but no card has all the above. The hawk for example: great cooling, but not that high clocks. The gainward: high clocks but not that great cooling. The POV Beast: ultra high clocks but no great cooling (including the eVGA FTW). I think the new Gigabyte GTX460 SOC really comes close to having it all
hmm all great choices Im gona look at if this replacement card does the same thing, one other thing is is normal for recent cards to sorta make clicking sound when switching from say Desktop idle mode to full 3D mode? cause the ecs card was doing that too.
I can tell you my two gtx460s are louder than my two hd5870's. Thankfully I can handle the noise without changing the coolers...
