Yeah, near 100% scaling in most games, if AMD can keep this up, i will take back my comments about any future dual GPU being a scam, so great work on that.

Single GPU performance not so hot based on that review though.

as Krog said. They are releasing the true successor to the 5800 series, the 6900 series.

uuurgh, i was originally planning to get a slower card like the GTS 450 since im most sensitive to PSU requirement (minor are CPU bottleneck, CUDA/PhysX and LCD size)
My PSU is around 6 years old already and powered several systems in its time without issues. It seems that the Max TDP of HD 6850 is only around 119W, just a few more than my original target GTS 450 (106W) and current 9600GT of 96W(OC prolly beyond the 9800GT power consumption around 100W+) perhaps i could gamble on it before i upgrade my PSU?

After reading the Guru post on the new 6870 and 6850 on the home page im not impressed. i know drivers can make them perform better but there no different from the last ati series. and not faster than Nvidia card 480gtx.

uh, they are MID RANGE cards with MID RANGE prices, not the high end ones like the upcoming HD 6900 series.

I think you missed the renaming memo. These are not intended to compete with a 5870, 5970, GTX470, or GTX480. They 6870 is intended to compete against the GTX460, and also holds it's own against the GTX470.

lol, depending on how much youre selling them for and what brand, i may snipe one off ya, lol. well, depends on how well the 6990 goes. i might grab one of those or a 6970x2 if they arent bottlenecked by my hexacore.

Yes it's normal, they have use only super OC 460 (1go and 768mo) and 470 same... i have nothing against that, but why don't they put just the reference 460 and 470 too?

seriously different of most review we can see..

who isnt saying that ATI released a driver for testing that either the consumer will not get for another 4 months after release or a driver that destorys IQ in favor of performance. I know both companies have done this before.

The performance is great, and scaling is awesome. Though their driver profile releases are insanely slow! I will never ever go for an Xfire system again after the troubles I had with my dual X1900XTX's and my 4870x2. They either take ages to release a profile, or they simply dont do one, or they release one but that then breaks another game!

Sold my 5970 for this. Going back to single card again and my eyes going for the 6870 now.

Atleast they removed the second xfire port. Not needed, a good move.

And im abit confused with 3D. How do you need extra software support to enable it? What 3D software? sorry never paid attention to 3D.

Nah i mean the 6870, if they finally make better xfire support and the single 6870 gets it hard then i put a second 6870 in it.

It means the card is capable of displaying 3D but they are not writing you a software to do so. You need native support from developer or third party software to tell the card how to display the scene in 3D.

cayman 6970 will be more suit to replace your 5890, since 6870 targeted to middle end market and replace 5770
