4850, shortly after a 3870 i invested a lot to switch, but still can't believe how they managed to pack more than twice the shader power on almost the same thermal envelope, made the 3870 look terrible, and AA performance was improved brutally. If rumors about the shaders of 6xxx series are true, i think that it will be the real departure from r600 legacy, and my next favorite.

Was still playing F1 Challenge 99 02 and Counter Strike 1.4/1.6. LOLZ at floppy drive power connector.
9800 Pro, hands down. It could handle a lot of games at some nice settings for years to come. I remember playing FEAR on that bad boy almost completely maxed at 1280x1024, lol. The 9700 Pro was a modder's heaven though. A lot of people managed to soft mod it into a 9800 Pro with all the bells and whistles.
9800 Pro The only card I successfully manged to overclock by unlocking something and also replaced the cooler. Since then no ATi until 5850 which is quite a nice card (unfortunately the drivers arent)
Lol i have kill 1 9700 and 1 9800Pro by Overclock them like mad ( they was no shutdown system like now for prevent overheating... ) I still have the box here, so i believe the cards are still there somewhere .
Haha a HP Pavilion 8180 we got in 98 had a IIc in it.. Didn't run jack but the comp did come with Mechwarrior 2 Mercs which is one of my all time favorite games. My faves would have to be my 2 main cards from the past and present. My old 9800Pro was a jewl of a card for a good many years then finally my current almost past 4870X2. Sure it had a few driver ups and downs, but the overall performance of the card has been exemplary. I absolutely love it and am sad to see it go in a final RMA (3rd card died same as the first original). Getting a 5870 in replacement so I may have a 3rd ATI love in the future here. As far as Nvidia goes I did love my original Geforce 2 MX but not near as much as my Geforce 3 Ti 500. That thing was a beast in its day. My 7800GS gave me the extra oomph to extend the life of my P4 3.0 system before a full replacement when my 9800pro was starting to show its age.
It was graphics deaccelerator. Everything ran slower than in software rendering mode. I had Pentium II 300Mhz processor back then in my system.
Lucky punk. This had a P2 266 with 48MB of EDO ram.. No way to really upgrade it and just enough to make everything that recommended 64mb to studder with swapping lol. The only game it did accelerate as far as I know is MW2Mercs.. Asside from that it could not even run NFS3 since it lacked the ram lol. Replaced it with a Diamond Monster Fusion (3dfx Voodoo Banshee) and that beast lasted me till I built my first comp in 2000. Loved that Banshee. The only problem with it back in the day was it was PCI and you really saw the latency issue on my P3 933 back when. It burnt out after 6 years of use and I got another on ebay which is AGP and runs a heck of a lot faster. Hell with only 16mb of memory it will play MW2 Mercs at 1680X1050 just fine lol.
I have to agree with you Renegade. The HD 2900XT was a lil advanced for its time. It had tessellation, 512 bit memory bus, 8pin and 6pin connector. I have gotten to play with one I with newer drivers a few months back and honestly it was pretty effin spritely. Beat my hd 3850, and was pretty close too my 9800gtx+. I remember ATI coming out and saying that they were not targeting the high end with the card. Same with HD 3XXX until the HD 3870 X2 came out. My list would be 9800,1900xtx, 4870, 5850. I have too put the 4870 in there because it brought ati back fighting with nvidia. The GTX 260 was their money maker for nvidia and ati finally was at a competing level.

9800xt , ati were king in directx while nvidia had their stinkin fx series. Fx 5950 ultra was a decent card but 9800xt performed better in directx applications. FX5950 had 4X2 pixel pipeline whereas the ati has 4X1 if I aint mistaken. 9800xt was such a damn good card back in the good ol'days.
Radeon 9800Pro supported Tesselation also. Based on personal experience, I'd have to say the Radeon 9800Pro and HD4850. I've managed to cook both cards to the point of smoking....and still have them function like nothing happened.
9800xt (pro) It came from a Medion computer and had the R360 XT GPU with the 128mb ram of the pro. HD3850AGP (Powercolor) with 1.4v GPU pencil mod was (and still is) good for 900mhz. Originally paired up with 2.7ghz Pentium M on my old P4P800dlx with SE bios, then finally on Asrock Sata2 mobo and e5200@3.43ghz, good for 3dmark2006 of 12000. Current HD5850, definitely a beast compared to the 3850.
