ok, this does nothing for the underscan issue in 3D games. Maybe it works for the restart bug. Don't know.

But I found a temporary solution for the games. If you leave the Catalyst Scaling window (Overscan/Underscan) open and run your game then the scaling will be loaded as you set it in the Catalyst.

This fixes the issue some of are getting with any catalyst 10.8 and hdmi displays.
After installation of 10.8 the driver is set to 15% underscan instead of 0% under/overscan, which results in that windows is downscaled by 15%
Setting the slider to 0% fixes it until reboot, then the ATI driver 'resets' itself to it's default 15% underscan.

Using the patch set the driver to 0% and keeps it there; even after a reboot.

Now check your CPU usage for this process.
Not really what you want to be kept running in the background.

That's why there was an option to change the poll interval. Non issue now though... CPU average has been reduced to 0% except when a resolution change occurs. When a resolution change occurs, my benchmarks now show a CPU average of 0.21% (highest average taken over a 60 sec period on my systems):

Command Line App (ver. 1.0) : http://www.oshinetworks.com/ATI_Underscan_Fix.zip (this executes once and exits)

    Tray App (ver. 2.1) : http://www.oshinetworks.com/ATI_Underscan_Fix.2.1.zip

    Tray App 2.1 ChangeLog:
    • Now monitors the system for monitors connected or resolution changes.
    • Poll interval setting removed since it now monitors the system and only applies the settings as needed.
    • Reduced CPU usage to absolute minimum.

I'll look into it. I don't play any games so I didn't test that scenario.

Just tried v2.1, this one is working in games for me and the CPU load is no longer an issue. Thanks :)

Maybe it's also possible to fix this in another way, at least in games.
The underscan resets for me in the first place because some games like to change the refresh rate from 60Hz to 50hz. This messes up the scaling and hurts the game frame rates.

Maybe a similar tool can be made that monitors a refresh rate change and changes it back to 60hz?

Well shoot, I was looking forward to telling my wife that I had to buy a game to test this program. :D

I'll see what I can do. I'm pretty sure that it will be relatively easy but don't quote me on that. Is there a game in particular that you can think of off the top of your head? (I might get to buy one after all.)

    You're welcome.

Yes, "Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands" for example is changing my refresh rate to 50hz every time. This is so annoying since I game on my TV and have to always use V-Sync. So it looses a perfectly good 10fps for no good reason.

I'll see what I can do. It will be a couple of days before I can get the game though.

    I didn't test it since I'm not using 10.8
Dx10 performance is better with TwL's 3.95 on my rig.

I updated it to fix a bug where the settings could be applied to the wrong adapter:

    Tray app: http://www.oshinetworks.com/ATI_Underscan_Fix.2.2.zip

Apparently, this will not be fixed until 10.10:

Dear @CatalystMaker, would it be possible to keep my HDMI over/underscan settings after I rebooted ? Thanks

    http://twitter.com/CatalystMaker/status/24134396825 : Tweeted reply

@pthiben Yup, use Catalyst 10.7. Not keeping the settings is a known issue in 10.8 and 10.9 will also have it. 10.10 will fix it

Realy? The whole catalyst driver team needs 2 month to fix this? Pathetic.
Those guys are the reason we can't have nice things.

The 10.9 drivers were probably already finalized by the time they realized the issue.

i dont understand why this is even an issue. stuff like this should be a very high priority. i hate having to set it even when i update the driver. all this should be automatic.
