It's the usual thing of not being able to see ANY real differences unless you have two static screenshots side by side and then they are obvious. If you can't see them while you're playing though then what's the point?

To me the whole DX11 tessellation thing has been a huge letdown because the improvements you can actually see in real gameplay are particularly indiscernable but the performance pay-off is huge. The most striking difference between the DX9 and DX11 LP2 benchmark is in the water which is tessellated in the latter and looks absolutely dreadful IMO.

i loved lost planet ! i had the game on pre-order on 2005

i have finished the game more than once done all achievment and played the multiplayer for long periods! and i was the best at that game online!

i had my own group and community for this amazing game!

and then i bought lostplanet colonies for more maps and more mods online! and it rocked!

i am very pleased to see lost planet 2 advanced to dx11 from dx10.

the game was stuning on 2005! and now its the best!!!

i will see you all online! I will host a dedicated server if it has one 24/7! this game rocks!

    see you soon!

It´s to soon to see what teselation can do for gaming, there only the first generation with teselation, a first step in the implementation, we should wait the architecture improvements and the 28nm process to see a real boost in this tech.

As was happened in past with other DirectX improvements, as shaders for example, the hardware should mature this tech.

Tessellation was supposed to bring more detailed visuals at little or no performance cost and that certainly has not been the case. If anything these more detailed meshes would probably have incurred the same performance loss had the developers manually created them so personally I don't see what benefits tessellation offers to us. In the LP2 benchmark it cuts the framerate down by over 50% and the tessellation is hardly noticeable during the fast gameplay IMO. I can certainly see how it makes less work for the developers though.

And here some of us are with first generation DX11 cards but by the time the technology has matured to the point where it shows real benefits then these cards will be obsolete. Yes, I know that is the way of PC technology but it's still a bit depressing that DX10 and now DX11 have been spectacularly disappointing thus far, at least in my eyes. No wonder developers are sticking with DX9 for 95% of PC games; the only real bonus we get from DX10/11 is anti-aliasing, e.g. Battlefield Bad Company 2 and (the dreadful) Aliens vs. Predator, both of which don't support AA when running under DX9.

Ive just realised that my card wont go into 3D clocks when this game starts, or any game for that matter now.

    Never had this problem before.

    October 15 2010.

Now, there is HUGE difference in performance between DX9 and DX11 on it's level, however visuals wise, the game looks poor with DX11 on or off, hard to notice at all.

Looks like it is inferior to LP1, time will tell

@unrealgaming, how much overclock do you have on your 5850?

    @Darren Hodgson
if you like too the tessellation (as LP2...) then I recommend that you change from hd5870 to gtx480 because "heavy" tessellation - gtx480 is almost 2x faster than hd5870. :p
I wait buy 2 gtx480's SLi during next days! :D

This is clearly an NVIDIA sponsored game. My 5970 can't even run this in DX11.
But, that's not a surprise, when the first Lost Planet came out it runned like crap on ATI, and took them almost a year to optimise the performance for this game.

Getting a huge CPU bottleneck in the 2nd test ( on dx9 ) . All cores at 100%, GPU usage falls to 50-60% at times ...

I greyscreened on this, but I think that was just a temp driver messup.

There are way too many threads on this, lol. I wish the mods would clean it up.

SLI wasn't supported in the LP2 benchmark either but a profile has been released that makes it work. ATI driver profiles don't support this game yet so it's Nvidia's fault? lol, ok.

Test B has some nice effects, the wind and water look pretty decent. I'm not sure what it's going, but it's definitely a game that pushed my WCing. Got up to 56 on the processor there, in test B.
