i dont think any added vrm sinks would vold warrenty but even if try to take off the heatsink you will..there is a "brake away" sticker on one of the heatsink screws that voids warrenty. i did manage to get it off without messing it up...i put it away for safe keeping. hilbert thanks for sticking up for us guys.
Some dude from a German forum did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEy80ancncc Hes also saying that he gets like 87°C at 100% in 100seconds and after 4 minutes furmark hes at 100°.
not good im certainly not buying one of these, il go with evga or something, they make good cards right?
Really don't understand how Palit can claim that they don't require the VRM heatsinks, they must be hitting some insane temps, no wonder the fans are going like the clappers, i wouldn't like to try a couple of hrs or so gaming session with them, i bet they get hit with a load of RMA's, due to overheating :eek3: £199 in the UK now gets you a 5850.
naa, thats like returning a chew after you've licked it. If unopened and unsoiled they can be returned tho.
As IPlayNaked already said - there is no temperature monitoring on the voltage regulators, them heating up wouldn't cause the fans to go any higher, only shorten the life of the card. More than likely they're other differences with the cooler/components that are causing the temperature/fan inconsistencies between the review cards and the retail cards.
the heat from vrm's will spead towards the temp sensor it does not have to make the core. you should know that temps from them in the high 90's low 100c will do two things.... add to the fan speed and slowly kill your card as you also said
My thought is that they reduced the GPU coolers size causing it to run hotter, so the fan has to run faster thus cooling the exposed VRMs better. They could use the big cooler and increase the fan speed, but enterprising folk with MSI afterburner would reduce it if the GPU wasnt hot.
This could be possible. I didn't read into the situation much, all I know is that people are saying that the retail cards don't have a heatsink on the VRM and the review cards did. If this is the case, and Palit is aware, it's a real douche bag move by them, even if they think that the design is adequate. And no, I don't think the VRM's being at most 20c hotter is causing a significant difference in the GPU core temperature. I'm also 90% sure that the fan speed is based entirely on the GPU temperature, not the PCB or VRAM.
Thanks for the headsup I ordered a Palit GTX 460 Sonic from newegg 2days ago and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I will refuse the package and have it return to newegg so I can get a full refund. I will buy the Evga 1gb card. is there a point of buying the superclocked edition ? i mean I could just overclock the regular 1gb ?
That's pretty low of Palit, something tells me that if they don't make this right Guru3d will NOT review their products anymore.
I would say something about refusing to test "premium" samples, but with the suitcase that Ares came in... that's about as "premium" as it gets :wanker: Edit: WHOOPS Peeked up this model's skirt, and she's missing an article as well. Sonic Platinum Overclocking Edition Is it possible Guru was sent a pre-final production board?
