What would one GPU from the 9800GX2 be equivalent to?

9800GX2 is fast as GTX280 but in some cases its only 8800GT

Ignore those two Bernards above, a single 9800gtx is the answer.

    As Del_Boy said, the 9800GX2 is a dual GPU 9800GTX(128sp, G92).

You are thinking about the GTX 295. ;)

I guess it would be worth it to replace my bro's 9800GT then.

9800gx2 sux with high AA and high res since it is only a 512mb card

I would say it performs close to a gtx 260 core 192. my buddy had two 9800gx2's which he later replaced with a 280, and the 280 was quite a bit faster.

    9800gtx is 512mb - 9800gx2 is 1gb, it has x2 gpu's like the 7950gx2 and 295gtx

a single 9800gx2 is on par with a 280gtx sometimes worse sometimes better
if what you say is true the gtx 280 is faster than 4 or maybe 5 9800gtx's, i dont think so, anyway the point is a 9800gtx has half the power of a 9800gx2

no it is 512mb. it's 512 per gpu therefore it is a 512mb card it is not 1gb for both gpus, it can only use 512mb of mem at once.

there is no way a 9800gx2 is on par with a gtx 280, i have 3 9800gx2's sitting here and 3 gtx280s and the gtx280's are faster and have more video memory for high resolution and AA

And driver support too, god I hated that card! By far the worst videocard I've ever owned.

And yes, its basically two 9800GTX 512MB cards sandwiched together.

VRam isn't doubled because it's not pooled memory, both GPUs can access only 512mb each.

A single 9800gx2 is nowhere near as powerful as a gtx280. Like I said, a gtx280 beats two of them in crysis, so i dont think a gx2 is more powerful than say a gtx260 core 192, but it might touch it at times with AA turned off.

A 9800GX2 does trade blows with a GTX280 so long as theres no AA applied. With that being said it's an awful card. The driver support was and I'm sure still is (possibly worse now) absolutely horrible. It was almost as if Nvidia didn't give two ****s about supporting the damn thing!

    It's mirrored memory.

It's still only 512 MB for texture filling etc.

If the OP wants ONE card equal to a 9800GX2's full potential, that answer is a GTX 280 or 285.

9800GX2 is powerfull as GTX280 but it can find for 120€ and GTX280/285 is around 280€.

I am not saying its better its just silly price difference.

The GX2 matches against the 260(216) if anything. While the GX2 generally gets higher maximums, it suffers from lower minimums compared to the 260.

Yeah, I recently acquired a dead 9800GX2 for free and was able to bring it back to life. Previous to this I had a 4850 on a i7@ 4ghz.
The 9800GX2 absolutely blows that card away. I have found it to work quite well in many different games. SLi has come a long way in terms of driver / game support and that card has ran many of my games liquid smooth. True the only downfall is its limit of 512MB per GPU and it does get filled quite easily (gpuz running in background can confirm the ram usage during a game) ... But, it runs Crysis quite beautifully on high settings with 2x AA and AF turned all the way up.
Also got about 26k in 3dmark06 and I think it was around 14k in 3dmark vantage P setting.
I run it on a 1680x1050 resolution with AA in all my games and runs great.

They are freaking hot though! I reseated the cards on the heatsink with fresh AS5 and some non conductive stuff on the VRM's they get freakin hot too! Also adjusted the fan settings at bios level for the card.
    But, I love it =)

Lol, after 3 months of working right its bios became corrupted again, so in order to prevent from opening the card up every time this happens I soldered on 2 leads to the legs of the BIOS chip and I simply connect those 2 leads and it resets the BIOS chip much like resetting the BIOS on a motherboard and that allows me to flash BIOS to the corrupted chip and reboot and its alive again =)

Its an EVGA SSC too =)

Yeah, as hard as I try I can seem to quit this card. I was the one that gave the card to the OP as it just died on me out of the blue a couple of weeks ago. I was gonna just ride it out with one card and hope that Nvidia releases a new dual GPU card soon. But then I found a guy on Craigslist that had a GX2 in his system. Me being the Quad junkie I am, I propositioned him to sell me the card, and about a week later he did :)

I'll eventually move on, but for the time being these are the best performing cards I've ever had. And definately blow the GTX285 out of the water in terms of my performance in most games at least. And that was before I went quad :)
