Mad props to the 8800Ultra

idles 40 ish..... load max 65

but will be upgrading eventually.

Thing with mine is ive never been 100% sure mine works ok, seems stuttery still, even with 5678 driver updates, which i assumed was the problem.

be glad to get rid, see if it is faulty afterall this time.

 

Probably get better FPS on some older drivers but cant be bothered to find out.

 

as corrupt mentioned on other thread, 169.07(?) was fastest driver for 8800, also known as 3Dmark drivers as they was claimed to be fixed to give good results on 3dmarks

after that came all the sli fixes that screwd performance for it

 

So lame, in the benchmark i get 64.83FPS @1680x1050, maxed out!. uke2:

 

My GTX vmoded @ 702/1836/1151 (thanks to the accelero Xtreme 8800) is running perfectly here too as a physX card since I bought a 5870, but It's powerful enough to play anything out with a not too high res and low/no AA on the heaviest games. It's an incredible card when you think how old it is. I love it ! I'm curious to see how more time it will still be a pretty decent gaming card.

 

Ran it with Fraps running last night driving though town 28-35 fps in game never lower and rarely higher.

Tried changing resolution, details settigns etc and makes little difference 1-2 fps at best. Only shadows have an effect really. FPS tanks with V.High shadows so I run it on High.

See what I get when my 5970 comes back, but the games runs like crap on everything so probably only get a gain of 10 fps and the ability to run shadows on V. High lol.

running HT can decrease gaming performance a good % Fusion_XT.

 

Going to try the old 169.09's see if my FPS improves.

 

Tried the 169.09's and lost 6fps in GTA EFLC, back to 197.45.

Surprising, I thought older drivers would have benefited the 8800.

 

you went too far back. try the 182.05s or 6s, or 185.2s. the .05s performed the best for me by a long shot, but i needed the 196.21s to play avp, l4d2 and other new games properly. the earlier set started showing their age with a few weird glitchy crashes and hitching here and there.

anyway this thread rocks, because my gtx owns up everything i throw at it. anything source-based, even l4d2 is a snoozefest for this card. bioshock 2 maxed out easily. cod:mw2 maxed no problem. avp as well, etc etc...and the best part is that my card idles @~48C and never breaks 60...

 

That was mainly in CSS though Currently having a problem, random fps drops in alot of games. My card died a couple of months ago, baking solved it, but I think it's slowly fading away again :x

The 8800GTX was the biggest leap in graphic performance the industry has ever seen. Easily the most famous King of the Hill Nvidia card to date.

I've had my 8800 GTX longer than any other card I've owned - over 2 years now..it seems there's still isn't game it can't handle...

1 and a half years after it was released, the GTX/Ultra was still the fastest card you could buy..that says something.

I'd like to know what is going to take it's place..

Even though I've had a great run with my baby, the way Nvidia's PR machine has been misbehaving over the last year or so, I'll be looking to ATI for my next card...

 

I liquid cooled my GTXes (SLI) back in the day due to overheating, got em both free at a 500$ price tag, slung some liquid at them to cool those hot bastards and to this day theres nothing i cant run in DX10 without a hiccup!
i've yet to install metro 2033 though.
i've had these things for 3 years(? has it been that long?!) and they still rock.
definitely best bang for the buck (but you cant beat free right?)

1 of my 8800gts died this morning coming out of hibernation. Artifacts all over the place, BSOD on windows bootup saying it can't initialize video card driver or something. Went and baked it for 8 minutes and now its all fine again. Amazing cards.

 

My old pair of 8800 GTS 640 are running at 680 Mhz core without any Volt mods.
What did the Ultra had in special in comparative with the GTX to be so big?

 

Nothing.

They're the same card except the Ultra is clocked slightly higher.

 

Not correct, All Ultras were A3 Cores (rest of 8800's followed as they started with A2 Cores).

Ultra also had 0.8ns Memory rated at 2400mhz (DDR Speed).

There was also a special internal code name for a feature of that I know nothing about and ain't heard of since but I cannot remember it now.

Hope someone chimes in so I can remember it.

I had a EVGA 8800 Ultra SC, ran it at 700/2400 (cannot remember exact Shader as it was Unlinked and in the 1700's).

 

My 8800GS is light in the ass, but it still surprises me how well it can run most games at 720.

 

A3 cores? What are you talking about? They're G80 cores.

And it seems Techreport also disagrees with you.
