Thought I would just give some props for the good old 8800Ultra @ 650/1116 oc.

Since I had to RMA my 5970 I bunged this old beast back in. And you know what? it still holds fine really If I was average joe this would be all I need.

BFBC2 60FPS 1920x1200 Vsync, tripple buffer, everything maxed out alas DX9 60fps with occasional dips to 50fps.

GTA4 Liberty City Stories, 1920x1200, high textures shadows high, everything else very high including water, reflections and night shadows 80/100/51. 30 FPS V sync and tripple buffer.

Metro 2033 DX9, 1920x1200 everything on max settings 30 fps.

Hell I thought going back to the 8800U from my 5970 will be an awful experience, know what? this old bastard still holds up fine for an old card. Props to Nvidia.

But on a side note, it made me realise ATI drivers are not all that bad at all. I hate the fact Nvidia drivers don't remember which side my HDTV is on (left) and it keeps getting the refresh rate on it wrong, messing with the position of my icons and had problems with media player classic and certain filters.

Well BFBC2 probably plays good because its more cpu dependent. And alot of the high end graphics dont work in directx9 anyway.

Oh sure, the 8800's in general are impressive all things considered. They get rebranded into both the 9000 series and the 200 series.

The games in DX9 don't lose much at all,,, going from 11 to 9 in BFBC2 in action is not noticeable the AA is poor in that game either way and the shadows meh, I wont bother running DX10 on the 8800 as it always sucked on it for barely noticeable difference.

I think the Achilles heel on the card is the low memory (gta4) if it had more would do even better. And a plus I guess is most console ports have low memory requirement anyhow.

But the way I see this card still run, going dual card really seems was the only real upgrade at the time when I did back in November. Although now the GTX480 is the right successor. Everything other was jsut 10-15%+ that was never worth it.

Glad you're having fun, one question why did the 5970 die?

What do you get in the benchmark? 30 here for liberty stories and 50 for vanilla GTA4 that is with shadows on high not v.high which is just 10 less than my 5970 on v.high shadows lol. This games is CPU bound totally.

Changed the thermal paste but got one core wrong so went to do it again, put it back together and would not work anymore. :bang:

It's not an ultra, but this GTX will be my first card to ever have been stuck in my comp for more then 2 years. If I tone down the resolution, I can still run Metro 2033 with a min framerate of 30, everything maxed out, on DX9.

Once they release the refresh of the 480GTX, I shall put this old beast to rest.

That ultra probly uses as much power as a GTX470 (yes Corrupt^ i said GTX470 not 470GTX).

Man I liked my 8800 Ultra too untill Crysis killed it.

Had to replace it back in the day with an HD 4870 X2.

That card ran like a champ untill Crysis got its grubby hands on it and overheated it.

I played Quake Wars on that thing like no tomorrow till Crysis came out.
I tell this story a lot, but it was one of those events that is hard to forget when you have a hobby such as this.

If my 8800 Ultra didn't burn up, I know I'd still be using it.

IMO the 8800GT and all 8800 series started it all.

They're probably the best bang for your money... even if you paid ridiculous amount of cash for them when they first came out, they've been around forever and still game well!
