    sounds more like an excuse cous they could't imagine ati's new 5xxx series being this powerfull so they had pull out all stops.
    anyway might just wait for gtx 485

    I find it very funny that among the thousand reasons people have to prefer one company over the other I'm the only person I know of that chooses based on colour.
    I love green :p

    Edit: Just remembered the other reason why I can't get an ATi 5K series; I wanna play with the rocket sled.

    lol @ Nvidia.

    Trying to cover their butts. Any chip can run at those temps for a time.

    It doesn't change the fact they grow weaker by doing this.

    Plus all the heat it makes doesn't help other components any.

    I don't care for the excuses they give, it's already apparent they stretched the card as far as they can go to match the HD 5 series, and thus where the temps come from.

    It wasn't "designed" to handle the temps. They had no choice BUT to accept those temps to match ATI this round.

    The delays prove it. I'll buy Nvidia again when I see them pull their heads outta their rears.

    So Nvidia runs hot, from what I read a large majority of people have Cold Bugs with their ATI and Watercooling.

    I'd rather have a card that runs a little hotter than constant corruption and crashes.

    What? When you make a die that big of course it's going to run hot. It's hotter than they intended though, guess they didn't expect the problems they faced with the 40nm process by TMSC defeats in the process, an having use more voltage to get the job done. Really think TMSC will be able to make perfect 28nm process too? doubt it. As these gpu's get more complex, their going to get alot hotter, an use more wattage.

    Increased complexity of a microarchitecture DOES NOT mean power comsumpution and thus heat have to increase...

    By all rights a more advanced design should make more efficient use of energy.

    I had a 280 (65nm), it was capable to put in troubles a twice 120mm Fans radiator.

    GTX280 = 236 W

    GTX480 = 250 W

    So you´ll need a two fans radiator dedicated only to the GPU for sure.

    Indeed, but that was Nvidias choice. Adding transistors and increasing die size is not the only way to increase performance.

    Care explain how increasing performance vastly by not adding things is possible? When you add rops,cache, bigger memory controller these all add to transistor count. Only other ways is clock speed, but these also push up the wattage an heat output. When i said complex, i meant by added sp count, more rops, more cache, these all add to transistor count which also add's heat. Notice cpu's aren't increasing clock speed? just the amount of cores an IPC.
    Wouldn't be surprised if the next genertion of cards break 5 billion transistors an pump out over 300W TDP.

    Microarchitecture design is alot more than adding transistors...

    if you have real interest then I suggest you read Microprocessor Design by Grant Mcfarland. I personally have aready had to study microarchitecture as part of my degree.

    Now before the Nvidia knights descend apon me in defensive fury, I never said Nvidia made the wrong choice. I'm just pointing out the heat, power usage etc was entirely their choice and not some unavoidable by product. Nvidia engineers were obviously aware of the heat and such, they clearly felt it acceptable to beat the competition.

    Not that you can blame ATI if third party modding causes problems right?

    Saying that some are reporting a change of bios fixes it, so its all good.
