is this really only for 4xx users?
    What does it change visually?
    Comparison shots/videos?

yes, only fermi/gt4xx chip (NOT gt200 chip) for accelerate Rigid Bodies. therefore, I recommend that you buy gtx480/470. ;)

    Are you being serious?

What do you think the GTX400 cards have that only they can accelerate this?

I think whoever wrote the article was late to the April Fools party. This sounds like a joke or retarded propaganda for Nvidia's new 400 series video cards!:bang:

yes. you remember new nvidia "Supersonic sled" techdemo (rigid bodies - 1 million particles for damage). this techdemo is amazing! :D

So you can only do this if you have a 4 series, seems like marketing crap to me, so people who brought a card for physX cant do it?

I know Dark Void had recommended system requirements of:
But its nothing but marketing crap to claim a GTX400 card is needed, im sure a something like a GTX260 as a PhysX card for most upcoming games, so Batman should be no different.

    Daso Batman??? lol

I'm not saying it will or won't, but something like a GTX295 has the same amount of Cuda cores as a GTX480, and whie i know that it has been more optomised, i can't see how it can only support the new cards.

it's impossible!! because gt400 ONLY is new version of compute capability. (but low-end of fermi? but mid-end is certain)

read gtx400 white paper and physx improvements, and you will know why ,.. i'll give you a hint, its allot about new L1 and L2 shared cache.

Current 2xx gpus have only 16kbit, fermi has 16+48kbit and all shared available.. and it can use some precalculated data in cache too, also it has improved gpu to cuda/direct compute switching up to 10x compared to current 200gt gpus,...
Like in Darkvoid , it didnt need any extra phsyx gpu it was powerful enough without it - avg 85fps with max physx 470gtx vs 285 gtx with only 40fps..btw just jetpack smoke has 150k particles alone, count in pulse rifle and other stuff and its probably around 200k at times.. Cryostasis has around 40 or 80k in tech demo..dunno about batman but that Scarecrow looks demanding probably around 100k particles.

anyway its like night and day in phsyx games, and you dont need an extra gpu anymore.

Yes, i know the GTX400 cards are far more powerful for PhysX, but im sure people with GTX295's could manage it, so it would be unfair to lock them out.

dunno i guess it can't handle the data efficient/fast enough like with 4xx series gpus.

Possibly, but with 480 Cuda cores on a GTX295 i find it a bit fishy.

Maybe that is Nvidia's way to stop ATI users using low end NV GPU's.

If new PhysX games need a high end GTX400 card to run efficent, it certainly rules out ATI users using an old card.

If my rig was up and running right now I'd DL this and see exactily how well if performed off of a GTX400...

Once I get my mobo back from EVGA I'll post my findings here, if someone doesn't beat me to it beforehand.

i dont know about u guys but with physx on high(without this rigid bodies patch) i played the scarecrow lvl and it crushed my gtx 285 ...it was rendering at 1-5 frames per second...so i guess the gtx 4xx has the power to render it at playable levels..not sure about those with dedicated physx cards but normally i think they should be able aswell..
