Picked up a pair. Very sweet card when overclocked. Absolute CRAP at stock clocks. Beta driver is also garbage. Can't overclock in Xfire. :fou:

    First Impressions :

AWESOME.. AWESOME... AWESOME.. Major Props to Sapphire for their cooling on this beast. 5 Heatpipes? More then enough. At 980c/1215m and 60% fan max temps hit 54C.. 54 ****ing C.

    1. This card would be amazing at 199.99 but i understand why amd priced it the way they did.
    2. On stock clocks this card sucks ass but i have a feeling it's because of the drivers. IMO the stock driver blows and was designed to not allow the card to come into the 5850's range.
    3. Overclocking makes it feel like a whole other animal.
    4. I'm not sure if it needs to be added to Afterburner but NO voltage tuning.. Nada. Those overclocked results are on stock voltage with 20 minutes of Furmark testing. Anything higher and the driver will crash within a minute.

Final numbers of my 5770 @ 960c, 1440m was 18,820 so on this setup an overclocked 5830 scores 1509 points higher.

Should have gone for the 5850 much better specs.

    But nice enjoy.

It wouldn't offer the same performance as two 5830s. Two 5830s are going to be universally faster than a 5870. His choice was the right one, considering two 5830s are absolutely the best performance purchasable at their pricepoint.

As long as you buy two.

Could you buy a 4890? Yeah, but let me tell you from experience, unless you're buying a heavily modded factory one, like the cyclone or vapor-x, then you're not hitting 1ghz.

Once he brings them to both to 1ghz, which they'll easily do if it's possible to overvolt them, they'll be beast.

Overvolting not possible unfortunately. Max core i can achieve at stock voltage is 985 :)

I think it's likely it will be possible. Likely uses different voltage regulators from other cards. Or perhaps AB simply doesn't detect it correctly, it is a new card, support will surely be added.

Also: To overclock in crossfire, try to OC with CCC, or alternatively disable ULPS. You can google how to do that.

How do they hold up in Unigine Heaven DX11 benchmark (1680x1050, 4xAA/16xAF) ?

Here in Denmark they are priced too close to HD5850 to be of any interest at all. E.g the cheapest HD5850 is like only $20-25 more.

although this card was sort of a disappointment because of the low ROP count and high power consumptions and heat, it is still an interesting card to me. if it were about 30-40 USD cheaper i might actually go for one, but it is currently priced too closely to the 5850.

nice benches though, looks to scale well in xfire.
