Guru3D Rocks, http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=315393 But when you make a mistake, beware of the falling stones. Start upgrading the rest of your system first. Then when it is time for you to select a GPU, both companies should have competing DX11 hardware and this thread should have died and you can get a fresh start on selecting a GPU.
true, still I thought I'd fix this: HD4870 512mb < GTX260 192sp < HD4870 1Gb = GTX260 216sp < HD4890 = GTX275 < GTX285 < HD5850 < HD5870 there, fixed
I think he was trying to state the general tone of the forums as they stand today. So many threads turn into flames at the drop of a dime now.
Well to be completely honest, in the beginning this thread had some credibility and it was a serious question on performance between the two cards. I then got most everyone's opinion stating the 5850 is truly the better card. I didn't want to take anything away from the 260 owners so I searched for instances where the 260 had a little edge on the 5850 and posted them. This is when I found the 'Far Cry' link and I just had to post it to see people's reactions, I mean 3840 x 2160?...comeon. In the end I'm not going to get either card now, it seems like the best thing to do is wait a couple months for the new Nvidia release/ATI price drops. Thanks for helping me decide.
I had a 1GB 4870 and it indeed was a terrible overclocker. Not to mention it was louder than a vacuum cleaner at the speed I had to set the fan to keep it cool with an overclock. Needless to say I returned it.
