Me too. This encourages winning instead of defending position since others get much less points.

McLaren will run on sarcasm, dry or dark humor, uncaring, coldness and a dash of fish and chips

well that was quick but FIA has decided that the earlier told new point system is going to be used in 2010

    http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2009/12/11/new-points-system-confirmed-for-2010/

The 2010 points system is as follows:

    1st - 25
    2nd - 20
    3rd - 15
    4th - 10
    5th - 8
    6th - 6
    7th - 5
    8th - 3
    9th - 2
    10th - 1

And they did little tweaking on 2010 calendar

    What's wrong with that?

A lot of people would admit that F1 was a lot better back when refuelling was banned in the early 90's.

You talk with your skill on the track, not with your ability to time your way into the lead when the other person pits... personally i think that's too predictable and frankly, boring.

Having points further down the table will mean that previous teams/drivers who got no points because they never placed will now have some numbers to grade themselves against each other. That's important for the advertisers and makes things far more interesting. It ups the competition across the board!

and? What point arre you making? They should be giving points to every car that finishes? That's too far. Top 10 is fine.

So more teams means that everyone has to have a better chance at points, how pathetically representative of the world we live in, the pathetic attitude that we are all entitled no matter how massively unqualified we are. Wake up this is F1 this is meant to be the pinnacle of motorsport, although with the ever standardising of the cars and parts it's starting to get harder to convince people of that.

I never agreed with the reworking of the points system to give the top 8 points and now this rework to give the top 10 points just makes things worse.

You're in the top flight of a sport you should only get points if you finish near the top and the top 6 worked quite well. It meant drivers had to EARN those points as opposed to the hold position and take these points attitude that the last points change introduced.

Also what about all the records for total points that were created under the old 10 points system, does that mean they will have to start again?

What are you talking about! The points are arbitrary numbers. It's still "the person with the most points" wins... and there is still the same relative gap between first and second. Just now they have spread out the points and increased the value of a podium position.

If they give away more points lower down the field it creates MORE competition in the middle of the field. Plus you'll note that 2nd and 3rd are now respectively bumped FURTHER ahead (relatively) of 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 than they were before. By the same degree as 1st ahead of them. So they are rewarding higher placed driver more than they did in the 10 points system.

Again, the points are arbitrary and aren't nailed to the trophies so the drivers can display them on their mantle. Actually they aren't really competing for points at all, they are competing for the position in the leader-board. That's all that matters. With a larger number distribution it just means there is more data from which to compile the chart. Thus the leader-board becomes more accurate.

It's funny to see just how bad the German tabloids want Schumacher to return to F1 racing.

Schumacher in a Brawn GP car... is that the sound of some very worried F1 drivers?

I won't believe it until I see it but if it is true it's going to put a dent in some peoples season plans.

Yes but that completely depends on the quality of the Brawn car this season. They were fast last year due to Honda's research and from my understanding Brawn have concentrated very little through out 2009 on 2010, hence (in my opinion) why they were so keen to receive funding from Mercedes.

I'm looking more at McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, and possibly Lotus standing a chance next season.

I've heard the complete opposite. That they had such a good start to the year that they cut development on the 2009 car and focused on the 2010. That is why the other teams caught up. Red Bull obviously developed their car to the end of the season but at least they currently have to best aero package.

It could go any way if you ask me.
