Hey guys, i finally got my Asus 5870 but there are few problems(or let say maybe i'm unexperienced with ATI cards)...

My card is shown in CCC as "ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series":

But i see other people's shown as "ASUS EAH5870 Series":

Why do you think its like this ? And btw as you can see in the photo that my Overdrive limits are 1200-1400 versus 1500-1500 as in the other photo...

    Any ideas ?

Oh by the way i went from 4gb 32bit OS to 8gb 64bit OS(first time in 64bit) and did a vantage run, how is the score ?(normal, low ?):(CPU is speedstep enabled and 3.8ghz on %100 load, sorry for the confusion)

And other question i have in my mind is i have two Catalyst 9.11 drivers... Their sizes are very different but i couldn't decide which one to use so i used the red one(the one from ATI's page)... :

    Thanks in advance...

First issue need not bother you, 5870 is 5800 series

2Nd issue is most likely a different brand 5870 or flashed with an unlocked BIOS as mine is, orginally my clocks were 850 / 1200, now I have much higher slider options as I flashed it with the ASUS bios

Of course but why the naming is different ? Yes i have EAH5870 with 1200/1400 cap but still the other one is EAH5870 too and it is shown right in CCC and it has 1500/1500 cap... Why is that ? Is it the difference between 32bit drivers and 64bit drivers ? Afterall i need to know for sure since i got it yesterday and i have still the RMA option...

I wouldnt have said its to do with 32 or 64 drivers, but I did find that I could only OC my card so far with the Beta drivers even after the flash, but the propper 9.11 ones from ATI site unlocked the cards OCing ability completely

Have you tried different drivers ?

Since i got the card yesterday, no i only have tried with 9.11 and about that, what is the other 9.11 driver which is 108MB against the one i'm using 68MB ?

Not sure there, the full 9.11 CCC Suite and driver is only 66.5Mb

I know when the 5770 was released there was those green looking ones you posted given out until 9.11 came out, but cant remember the file size

Well i dont run with speedstrap on. Have u tried furmark?

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/FurMark-v1.7.0_d2321.html

I always download ccc and the diplay driver. But your card looks fine..

Run some games and let us know how they run. I.E turn on the fps monitor and heat monitor and use it in game. 40 percent fan speed should be plenty if you are worried about temps.

Personnally I would run it at stock for a bit with around 30 percent fan and see how things run..

Your vantage score is on par for your what you have your card oc'd to.
The card with the 1500/1500 cap might be running a modded bios. It doesn't matter anyway because you wont even reach the speeds your card is capped at.
The difference in the two sets of 9.11 drivers is the hotfix fixes a bug with Dirt II. I haven't noticed any performance gains in benchmarks.

The 1500/1500 capped card is at 127 degrees celcius. Not good

Yeah i already tried that, i don't know why but yesterday my rams couldn't handle 1250 but it can handle now o_O
About fan i made a good silent fan profile with Afterburner works like a charm... In Auto mode GPU went up to 85, with my profile it goes max 68 and it's still silent...

Here is the Furmark Stress mode + Temps...

So no problem... I also guess its modded bios... Doesn't matter anyways as you said... But never the less i wanted to see EAH5870 on CCC :p

Btw i have problem with MSI Afterburner... Apply on Startup doesn't work neither with the OC Clocks nor Fan profile... I have to push APPLY on every restart EVEN MSI Afterburner starts with Windows...

Hmm... something im missing or something is not right there, here are my results with the same settings, except im in 1920x1080 running the 5770, I thought you would get better results with the 5870 ?

Core 950 (Reason for edit - corrected core clock)
    mem 1400

Ow that must be because i ran mine 1680x1050 NOT fullscreen... Lower the resolution lower the score as always... Because of the increase in usage of CPU usage and lower the usage of GPU...

Here is the score i got with the same settings as you are... If you notice lowest FPS is double the yours... Which is the thing matters most(to me at least) :) :

New benchmarks, please tell me what do you think ? :)

Btw i couldn't go beyond these clocks with stability... I once got GPU to 1060mhz but then i had to give 1.35V + i had to move the rams back to 1200 so i got this setup as stable at last... I guess my card isn't a OC'er afterall but i'm happy with it at the moment :)

im envious of your cpu, it makes me think i shouldve spent the extra $100 to get an intel setup instead of an amd. my cpu score at 3.8ghz is 13000 and for some reason the 'amd boost' wont enable, lol.

anyway, as to the difference in file size, the small file only contains the ccc, catalyst install manager, and the drivers.

whereas the larger file is a hotfix, therefore it is a complete compilation, which means it also includes avivo transcoder, hydravision, eyefinity, etc.

LOL i'm really unlucky, first MSI Afterburner doesn't work at restart, now win7 search don't work at all(not even in start menu), and i tried everything about both of them :D

Clean install seems a must now i guess, but i might have a suprise if i can manage to handle it and works... No miracls of course, i'll try to work my 8800GTS (512MB G92) with the 5870 for PhysX :D

    Wish luck for me :p

Intel always get higher scores in benchmarks, even during the Netburst architecture P4's did really well.

    PhysX ¿ Of course :D

I won't keep 8800GTS in computer because you can't use it unless you EXTEND the screen to this imaginary other screen(which bugs me a lot on desktop use) and of course the heat and power consumption issues... I turn off the imaginary screen while i'm not playing or using PhysX but it seems except for few games its seriously unnecessary... I don't know what future will show about games with PhysX but until then 8800GTS will sit in my closet :p

By the way i started to have another problem which is "flickering" on the second screen of 5870... I tried to watch a movie as i usually do on my 40" Toshiba 1080p by enabling it but it started to flicker SERIOUSLY :( Even if there is nothing on the second screen it flickers hard... Any ideas on that folks ?

Other then that i'm pretty happy with the setup...

the lower power states have the core clocks too low to handle the second display properly. you need to use a program to rewrite the bios for the core clock steppings or use a program to force an overclock.

I overclocked 8800GTS to 800/1800/1000(which is my old profile when it was my only GFX) then both Fluidmark score and Batman Arkham Asylum FPS went up a little... Doesn't worth mentioning but at least a gain is a gain :)(forgot to take a screenie on Batman)

yeah i figured that out few minutes ago but it's seriously frustrating, can't even watch a movie ? :S

Is there another way to handle this ? I mean MSI Afterburner doesn't have 2D overclocking, what can i do ?

run folding@home in the background, that should up your core clock to the second step, and should eliminate the flicker.

alternatively, use asus smart doctor, as that sets the clocks for all steps instead of just the 3d clocks.
