GTX 275 CO-OP PhysX Card [Pics] So I just got back from the EVGA Halloween Launch Event. They introduced the EVGA GTX 275 CO-OP PhysX Card. It has a GTX 275 chip on one side and a GTS 250 for the PhysX. I took some pics from my phone, so sorry for the bad quality. There also pictures of the new X-58 4-Way SLI motherboard. (I'm not sure if these should be in the right section?) The event overall was fun. Lots of raffle prizes such as 260, 275, 280, 9800GT, but I only a got a t-shirt. The new Batman game was being demoed with 3D and there was a contest with who could get the highest score. The top 2 or 3 people won this new card. P.S-Hi, I'm new to this forum.
Sweet, i love my PhysX effect as im sure alot of people know, so nice to see this card. Can't say its something i'd want to buy myself with the new cards so close, but if priced correctly, i'd definetly consider it.
Sweet pix and welcome to the forums! Even if PhysX goes the way of the dodo, the extra core could still be used for DX11 based physics and other general purpose compute calculations. I bet we start seeing more cards like this in the future.
welcome Rosh,what a fine entry you made 10x10 when will they stop using DDR3? I was disappointed when i found out my 260 was DDR3 having ATi at DDR5,seems a bit yesterday dont you think?
There is a lot more to it than that. The only reason they are in competition at all is because GDDR5 is still too expensive to put on a larger bus. GDDR3 on a 512-bit bus vs GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus pretty much comes up equal on available bandwidth when you clock them both to a frequency of 1000mhz. Put GDDR5 on the same 512-bit bus, or even on a smaller 384-bit bus and it would run GDDR3 into the ground on performance. GDDR5 is a LOT faster than GDDR3 on the same bus, considering you have double the effective clock speed, it really is that simple.
SLI is gonna be the one that is pointless. SLI either doesn't work properly(drivers/games) and when it does, it's not all that. My friend in Houston was running 2 8800 gt 512 in sli then had an idea similar to EVGA's. He put a 250 gts 512 as his primary and one of his 8800 gt as his physX. It beat out the 2 8800 gt in sli. Im getting ready to run either a 275 or 285(EVGA) as my primary card and use my current EVGA gtx 260 216 896 superclocked as my physX.
like i said fast ddr3 as just as good as ddr5 when they use a bigger bus then it might be faster in real life(might not concidering ddr4 showed **** for gains with a 512 bit bus)
You're one of the few to admit that SLI isn't perfect. I haven't bothered with it since Vista was released. But, with a pair of GTX275's or GTX285's....SLI would be faster than a single GTX275/GTX285 with an 8800GT handling PhysX.
GDDR5 vs GDDR3, 5 is vastly superior in both speed and power savings. There is no competition there. Sure maybe you could build an insane bus (up the cost) and clock the GDD3 super fast (insane power use) to match the speed of some small low clocked GDDR5 memory, but it's incredibly inefficient to do so.
