to show off that he has a good command of English?

U know rather than simply typing gramatically correct sentences along with some common phrases, this person uses rarely used english words or phrases.

    WHat do u guys think?

Well, I think people should make sense and capitalise properly. They certainly shouldn't use "u" for "you" and all that crap. Showing a little effort is more important that a large vocabulary.

I suppose that one needs to structure proper sentences and use the correct words especially when he's the one giving constructive comments.

Oh get over yourself. It's a simple typo.

Considering he wasn't even taking a shot at you, I think he's fine.

Well, throwing in some "rarely used word" now and then, certainly can make a text less repetitive, more interesting and respected.
But this is definitely more important:

There's a difference between something only the typo police give two ****s about and just being lazy.

If the person is educated and well read it will usually come out in their written and spoken words. An educated or well read person should have a better vocabulary and a stronger command of the language/s they were trained in.

I know many people here, including myself, speak and read more than one language. You have to be able to speak and read your native language well if you really want to learn a new language.

As for the "typo police", I only call people on their spelling and grammatical errors if they are trying to talk down or belittle me in some way. Otherwise I could care less if someone uses the correct 'right, write, or rite' in a sentence, spells a word correctly or places a comma or period at the correct places in a sentence. As long as I can understand what someone is trying to convey it's all good dog.

    I can't stand 'run-on' sentences though [shudders].

I agree with Jack, but my pet peeve, or the thing that's glaringly obvious to me every time, is the suffix "ize" and how often it get's screwed up with "ise".

    capitalize - capitalise
    randomize - randomise

Dunno why that's always stuck out like a sore thumb to me, but it's amazing how often words with it get misspelled.

Just think about how you pronounce the word. You don't pronounce the word capitalize as "capital-ICE". *cough* poster number 3 :D

Both are legitimate, depending on your location.

And also, Capitalize doesn't have the same sound as ICE. (Unless you pronounce ICE very strange as well)

Oh, see there, learn something new all the time. I didn't realize it was spelled that way...somewhere. Like "honor" and "honour".

And yes, I was saying "capitalize" ISN'T pronounced as "capital-ICE", which would be the sound that "ise" makes. "ise" = "ice" :)

My English is fine but when I'm typing I just can't be assed to put much effort at times. I enjoy typing like a retard on MSN and ingame but on forums like these I prefer not to come off as an idiot.

I also lol'd at the fact that death_samurai had a nice capital "U" in his post and then later corrected Joey on a typo which has nothing to do with one's skill in English.
