Just take a peek at Second Live, all physics is handled via the server and not the clients. They use Havok too.

And to be honest, you think a company like Blizzard would use something only a specific hardware vendor supports? :)

Havok is CPU bound, where of course Physx is done by nvidia therefore leaving others out hence why havok is still prefered

although i would like to see havok being on via the GPU

why? most game engines are GPU heavy leaving lots of resources available on the CPU cores. Physx can also work on CPU if hardware is disabled. I only have dual core and oftentimes when i measure cpu usage i see averages of roughly 50% cpu idle.
I cant believe i can average over 50 fps in games like Fallout 3 or call of jeurez 2 maxed out settings and @ 1900x1080 and still have resources free

well if a large company making PC's is looking for something and your boycotting what they want to market then you will miss out on a huge sale. OEM pc makers for instance may order millions of units and if they chose your competitor instead, then your SOL.
So they went against their beliefs or whatever and created a couple cards that support 10.1...or so it seems. $$$ overcomes values, religion...anything.

The solution for that isn't far away.
As far as Ive seen, nvidia, ati and intel all want to make more calculations on the gpu instead of the cpu.
Even MS likes the idea, and I think they already got it working.
Which means that the OS should be able to lead calculations like example for the Havok engine to the GPU.
This is a bit theoretical but I can't see why it shouldn't work.

There needs to be some balancing on this thou.
So that this implementation auto-detects where there are enough resources free to do such calculations.

Hmmm this thread is pretty big huh :)
Speaking of GT300, what are the chances of nVidia releasing dual GPU upfront ?
Don't wanna waste my time, I wanna go dual straight away :D

Slim to none, probably see that in a refresh much like the GX2 and the GTX295.

The cores are still pretty big, they might even need to to down to a smaller process unless they sandwhich the cards on dual PCB's.

    Actually

actually one little boy and his 2 chip card. That will will not beat the asus rog 285. He needs to quit playing with comps and go back to the atari 2600.

Hi good old friend :)LedHead , this cards run way cooler than my GTX 285s so indeed the small exhaust works very good , i did some testing last night on CrossfireX x2 5870 and it Rapes 2 of my GTX 285 SLi :p in my testing no question about it as im not bias i love both Nvidia and ATI and own both of the single fastest GPUs on the Planet wich are GTX 285 and ATI 5870 , 5870 wins by a large margin  , so being fair and honest to myself x2 5870 compared with Dual GPU 295 ( I did use x2 GTX 285 to mimmick 295 ) by a large margin + IQ factor + Performance + Cooling running GPU = 5870 Pawns and Rapes GTX 295 :giggle2:. take care bro.

chispy where is the comparison? I thought you'd have charts or numbers at least.

    Also don't forget 2x 5870 = $739.98

    GTX 295 = 469.99

Hiya my Bro , in a good way and not to sound harsh , you got to trust me on my honest opinion as i dont write down numbers and make charts i only like to test , benchmark and compared hardware and i based my findings on experience , my word is enough :) and you know that

    Take Care Bro.

Adding another 5870 causes domination to a GTX 295, therefore this statement doesn't even make any sense. 1 5870 almost equals a 295 and it costs 70 dollars less.

A single 5870 is slower than the 295 overall, making the 295 the fastest single card in the world and that is what this thread is about.

If you want to go SLI/CF then compare 2x 5870 to 3x 285

agreed, I'm hoping later drivers will improve performance but the 5870 is priced too high I feel, waiting for G300 so prices can normalise after they have a few months of price wars

From what I gather roughly speaking. 2 295 equal 2 5870`s so were talking 480x2 for 2 295`s equaling $960 vs 2 5870`s at 380 a pop. that equals $760 for the 5870. So... we are talking about a $200 premium on the 295 for a little extra performance. ATI wins here I`m afraid cost vs performance wise

It's not slower overall, it trades blows depending on the game. Clearly you can pull out all the Nvidia biased games you want and only show those benchmarks, and then claim its better because of them. You can do the same with ATI. Also, the 295 is a single PCB, dual GPU card. It's still 2 GPU's. Therefore, you can't classify it as a single card just because it occupies only 1 PCB.
