I'm looking to upgrade from my 2 8800 GTX's. I use Tigerdirect, but am willing to buy elsewhere if the deal is there. I want to spend no more then 300 or 350 on a card or 2 for SLI. If there is one card out there that can out perform what I'm using then please tell me.
    Games I play:
    TWEmpire
    ARMA 2
    Eve Online
    Football Manager 2009/2010
    Theater Of War 2
    AA3
    Rome TW
    MTW2
Mass Effect 2(when it comes out)
    Project Reality

These are games I play, but I play EVE, FM, and Arma2 and TW Empire the most. The 8800's have done very well with Arma2 in that I play high to VH and on my best resolution. I think its time though to make an upgrade though. Any suggestions would be helpful as I would buy them right now. Also if there are any deals on Tiger I should know about throw em at me. Thanks.

One thing. In one review on this card. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat....asp?EdpNo=3713146&csid=ITD&body=REVIEWS#tabs
Someone said it was the next best thing if you did not want to get the 295. Is this true of this card?

With your current set-up being more than enough to play literally every game out there on max i would wait and see what the GT300 series brings, otherwise your looking at a 295 which i dont think would be a great idea with the newer cards coming in a couple of months, 2 8800GTX's are still great cards.

One option is to wait until the release of ati's 58xx series...They will(according to the current benchmarks) outperform even the gtx 295 for the money you want, and i believe the price of the previews generation will fall...I think that's the best time to consider upgrading, which is a few weeks far from now..

Got to be honest ATI isn't my brand. Nvidia all the way. I feel ATI is a little bit confusing to get used too. Although if performance gets better then anything is possible.

he lied-your 8800gtx sli is faster than 9800gx2
    8800gtx sli=gtx 280~285
you really want a card faster than your present setup than its the gtx 295 but if i were you i would wait for next month and buy the ati 5870/5850 which is supposed to beat the gtx 295 and is dx11

Then i'll have to agree with Copey...Your cards are currently very good, and for the budget you say,i can't think something better..Sorry :)

*Maybe after the release of 58xx,you'll be able to get a gtx 295 for 350 - 400...

I aint to sure on the price but usually the series before drops in price when the new ones come out, so then you could pick a 295 up cheaper.

    are u fps whore? :)
    please dont find it insulting...
i would find it more insulting if "my" 2 8800GTX 768 mb cant run any game on max graphics with 60fps...
if im wrong, tell me ;)

No Im not. I do like clean and smooth gameplay though. Could less about the FPS count as long as the game is smooth and not freezing due to lag and stuff Im good.

Same as me, i couldnt care about FPS if the game is smooth then its smooth., your cards are great tho so that shouldnt be a problem.

i also expected you to tell few examples of what games get not enough fps for you...
im rly curious cos 2 8800gtx sounds perfect solution for all games till 2010xmas at least.

    whats sli 8800gtx? a 275?

dont be put off. upgrading to a single gpu is a good move. wait till prices on the 5870 come out then make a decision.

on a general note problems u might have been experiencing are due to sli issues and drivers.

generally if u want less heat n hassle single gpu is the way to go.

How about 2X HIS Radeon HD 4870 1GB in crossfire. It is about 350S USD which is the same as a GTX 285 and it beats a GTX 285 any day of the week.

It isn't a worthy upgrade from 8800 GTX SLI.

I had 8800GTX SLI also and when I was planning to upgrade I noticed that it performs about the same as one GTX285 which I was planning to buy.

Thats how I ended up buying GTX285 SLI :)

i would keep the gtx SLi for a bit since its still a very powerful setup. as long as everything is running smooth i would wait until next year sometime for a 5800 or g300 refresh since cooling solutions and drivers usually get better after new tech is out a few months.

2GB isn't required if he doesn't game 2560X1600, even for that res. it isn't required much.

Why not wait for the 5870?:3eyes: It is expected to perform as much as a 295..
