So, I assume the installer of the upgrade version of Windows 7 will ask for an XP key during the installation process? Or is it going to require an installation from within XP which will then wipe the HDD?
lol, so to keep everything i HAVE to get Windows 7 Ultimate, bit weird to only allow that upgrade path
So lets say I have Windows 7 ultimate and I have the iso to upgrade. Would it ask for a key during the installation? If so, would it be a windows 7 key, or is it gonna ask for my vista ultimate key? And what cyber asked is pretty interesting as well.
I have an XP Upgrade.I boot from it, do all the deeds of format,partition, etc.During the installation, I have to put in a Win98 disk for about 10 seconds for verification-it then self ejects, asks for the XP disk, and finishes. It sounds like the same deal with this.It will be just like a regular clean install, but proof of XP will be required.
you will be able to put windows 7 into a different folder like XP and vista i've had 3 installations on the same partition before, all worked fine
That would be really nice - if it's going to work like that. That's correct. You're going to get a full version, afaik.
I hate upgrading, it just seems messy. I don't want to pay for the full version, but I may have to. I'm sure Microsoft has fixed the "upgrade workaround".
i think the upgrade packs aren't gonna be as messy as the upgrade from xp to vista was for some people if u are going from vistahp64 for example to 7hp64 then there isn''t much difference besides a few things since 7 is just super vista after all. im gonna go the upgrade route just because i don't feel like reinstalling some things.
I did an upgrade install from Vista Ult 64 to Win 7 Ult 64 and it went perfect. Just about 35 minutes from start to finish. The only thing I had to update manually were the MS Keyboard and Mouse drivers which took about 5 minutes. All my games, apps and hardware run perfect with no issues. I usually do a clean install but I just didn't feel like taking all day to re-intall all my apps like Office 2007, Adobe CS4 Extended, Cyberlink Apps, Quicktime, steam apps and games etc etc... The new task bar takes a bit of getting used to. But once you get used to right clicking to launch a new instance of an app, it's not that big a deal.
