If you had to pick only one game made in the last 5 years, what would you say is the best in your opinion? ; and why?

Also, please do not bash other people's opinions of what they think is the best game. Everyone has a right to their opinion, so let's respect that.

My personal favorite of the last 5 years:

I had a very hard time trying to decide since I really enjoy a lot of games. I narrowed it down to Oblivion and Mass Effect, but in the end, I'd have to say the best, IMO, is Mass Effect.

I've always been into sci-fi movies, shows, and games. The first time I played Mass Effect, I was blown away with how great it looks and plays. Even after 3 replays from start to end, (which is a LOT for me) it is still great looking, and a lot of fun to play.

So, what do you think the best game made in the last 5 years is?

Gotta go with this as well due to mods to the engine such as TF2, Portal & CS:S.

Well, I had to choose between HL2 and Oblivion. And I finally decided to go with Oblivion for the simple variety and vastness of it. It never ends! Although I wish the characters were more balanced.

My vote goes to Oblivion :)

It's got the perfect mix of a story line, random events in a free-to-roam world and perfect driving physics.

    Good good question...

Actually, Doom 3 is really what did it. I remember trying to originally run doom 3 on a radeon 7500, didn't work out so well. :D But for me, doom 3 was the game that I could never stop playing, and just go back to.

That was the reason I had such a hard time deciding as well. The fact that the game is constantly being added to, and improved says a lot about it. I've played it so much that I get "burned out" with it, but I always return eventually. :)

F.E.A.R. with the Extraction Point expansion pack.

I just really liked it, and I played it like 20 times.

    Gothic 2: Gold Edition.

Sure, Gothic 2 came out in 2003, but the Gold edition that included the expansion wasn't released in the US until 2005. I don't like relying on a technicality, but I haven't been blown away by basically anything in the last 5 years.

I played A LOT Half Life 2 and Guild Wars, and loved them (and still love them), so I'll go with these two games, since I can't decide wich one I prefer...:nerd:

For me it was Devil May Cry 4, particularly the graphics are very very impressive and beautiful, one of my first exposures to DX10. The story and cutscenes just sucked you in and were really cinematic, plus it ran buttery smooth on my system so it was just a fantastic gaming experience,

I loved upgrading all the moves and weapons and being able to play as Dante just sealed the deal for me. Tons of replayability value.

    Can't wait for DMC5.
