Here's the dealio, Specs to the side, but whenever I play COD4 its got pretty low FPS for my setup. It averages about 40-45fps maxed at 1920x1200 which is totally playable, but also frustratingly low for my machine. The machine was at 3.33Ghz stock, and I oc'd to 4Ghz and also OC'd the video card to 950/1150, but it didn't make 1% difference to frames. So you can see my problem, it's like something is limiting my framerate. And no v-sync is not on in CCC or in-game. :nerd: What the heck else could it be? thanks in advance guys
maybe lowering the quality and removing anti aliasing would allow you to play at 60 fps at high res? deltatux
Nah it's not that, I was able to get better frames with my GTX 260 (the 192 SP edition), and that's a slower card. All the pro reviews should a much higher average framerate at that res and with AA for this card too. BTW I've also tried different drivers, no difference.
that's weird, I have a 9850 + 4890 and get like 120fps+ in that game, maybe try a clean install of windows, or look for sum remaining nvidia drivers and delete em if u used to have an nvidia card
yup it's all super clean gtx 260 was never even installed on this os install, and i had the same problem on both installs of xp (pro and corporate). i just don't get what could be limiting be and stopping large cpu and gpu overclocks from even adding 1 frame.
Could it be because the 4890 has a larger VRAM causing not enough virtual addressing for your applications to use? (remember, you lose virtual address space the larger your VRAM is on a 32-bit OS) Try again with a 64-bit Windows. deltatux
The 4890 only has 128mb more VRAM than the 260 though? Surely it shouldn't make any difference. And wouldn't it be easier to just take 1/2gb (1 stick) of RAM out to see if that makes a difference rather than get hold of a 64bit OS?
You never know, maybe the software required that extra 160 MB of virtual address space but never got it... I'm just guessing since that's the only thing I can think of that may cause this... Maybe create a new partition and install Windows 7 64-bit? deltatux
that doesn't affect performance. I leave Cool-n'-Quiet (AMD's version of SpeedStep) and C1E on the whole time the CPU would clock up automatically. In addition, for me, AMD has another power saving function that you can't turn off which will turn off portions of the processor you don't use. So power savings isn't the cause and I'd be surprised if it was. deltatux
It's worth a try, you can't wholeheartedly know if it isn't the cause if you don't try. Always try the easy stuff first.
yeah all that stuff's been tried. still nothing. I even turned off all AA and AF and the framerate remained the exact same. its just capped and i don't know what the hecks causing it.
incl. the 64-bit OS? Show us a screenshot of your settings. If the settings are fine, I'd suggest running GPU-Z and show us the info from that. deltatux
COD settings are max with 4x AA, sync off and obviously, dual cards off. CCC is all at standard settings, with the exception of overdrive which is 950/1150. Don't need defrag, no virus or spyware, machine is clean and I'm not sure on the OS yet as I've to dig up my win 7 disc to use that. ran 3dmark and its normal, 16,800 points. sm2 scores etc are all comparable to other reviews. i'll try win7 and see whats up.
