Hey guys, Specs: E6550 2.6ghz OC'd Kingston 2GB 666mHZ Gigabyte GA-P53 S3L HIS Radeon 1GB HD 4870 DDR5 550W Coolermaster Extreme PSU 20' WS Proview Moniter I've recently installed a HIS Radeon 1GB HD 4870 on my computer and have done a road test with it on Crysis. All settings High, No AA, 1680x1050. Ive read benchmarks are around 40 fps average, but i can only get between 25-30 FPS So i thought maybe its just the game, so i ran a 3DMark06 test and get a measly score of 12125. Are these things normal? Thanks for the help in advanced
Whats your HDD's? And have they been degragged? I had a similar rig and to be honest, you should get more.. but only a little.. Memeory looks a little slow too.
How 's your gameplay wise ??? Crysis can be a be*ch while benching, but then, gamepay it's about 20-30 fps but really smooth,,,,,,,,,,,, 2.8 Ghz CPU it's not that bottleneck on a single 4870 (well, except for GTA IV and similar crap )
try with heavy GPU games, like call of duty (ok its not heavy gpu, but its sooo light for cpu), or idk... resident evil 5 benchmark (the first quarter of variable benchmark is fully gpu dependant and there r a lot of results in the games forum )
well i tested Cod4 and everything maxed, full AA 1680x1050, maxfps was 125 and it didnt drop below 120 on packed pub servers ibitato: th game runs reasonably smooth just a low fps, but its pretty smooth. Ill do a full defrag tommorow, using defraggler. that ne good? im looking @ buying new ram as well
Crysis it's like that. In this game , low fps does not mean bad gameplay, the engine makes it work in that aspect......... If you plan to install 4GB RAM (that is a must do) move to Windows 7 x64 RC already...... It's a very stable O.S already for gaming......and will make use of the full 4GB RAM..... I am very happy with vista 64 and gaming, but the next jump must go for w7, no point to go on vista.....
I score over 17,000 with my HD4870 512mb. My I7 920 is at 3.35ghz. Sorry, the post was directed at tdirago.
don't forget pro reviews use extreme core 2 or i7 cpu's, incomparably faster then your cpu. which would explain quite a difference.
That would seem to be the case. I just installed the latest Catalyst drivers from AMD and I really like it. Overdrive has a fan control included and I just scored 17,596. I'm quite satisfied with this score. The i7's sure do rock...and mine's a C0/C1. I had trouble with overclocking at first, but now, it seems to like it at 3.36
His processor is too slow....his memory is too slow and lacking quantity... He really needs at least 3.2ghz out of that E6550...he would also benefit from 4g DDR2-1066... Performance impact from his harddrives is really neglegible unless he's using ATA66 (PATA) harddrives. But, all this is just my observation based on the specs he gave... He's using budget/mainstream parts and trying to run a game intended for high-end/enthusiast systems...
can my motherboard support ram @ that frequency? i didnt think 4870's were classified budget. but that still doesnt explain the low 3dmark score... anyway im ordering these parts to oc my cpu to 3.2 or higher Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme Heatsink Rev. A $89.00 OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum 2x2GB OCZ2P800R22GK $80.00 CoolerMaster Silent Red LED Fan 120mm $19.50 what you rekon
I would opt dropping the fan and heatsink and dedicate the money towards a faster CPU. Personally, I wouldn't settle for anything less than a Q6600.
Yes i'd go for a quad. tdirago, can you double - check your mobo model ?? I was trying to take a look to the mobo, but somehow the model looks funny to me......
sorry guys, i got the 3 and 5 backtofront for the mobo its actually a GA-P35 S3L http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2597 It is a budget bored, but ive read reviews, and its a decent overclocker. im catually tempted to just get the ram (OZC 2x2GB PC6400 Reaper) and an 8400 and OC, on a stock cooler to around 3.5GHZ Then im set for a while, i find quads to expensive, atm games arent even using them effeicnelty It is a budget bored, but ive read reviews, and its a decent overclocker. regarding Q6600 i cant find any stores that still sellem, the Q8400 is the same price as the E8400, lol whats the difference
To give you just one example ; all games using UT3 engine, are optimized for quads. Most modern games, are quad happy..... Q6600 and E8400 are $20 diff..........
