Hi guys! I jave just cleaned up my 8800GTX and I have a problem with ATI Tool artifact scanning.

Sometimes I see 2 (just 2) dot points in the same positions when I start the test (and they stay there). ATI Tools says no errors is detected even after several minutes but I can see those two dots (but they can disappear after a while, and reappear too!).

I am asking myself if I have damaged some component of my card of if there is a problem with latest forceware and the program.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and assistance and if possible tell me how I can test the goodness of my card (alternative to ATI Tool).

You cleaned your card and it still reaches 80ºC?

Like they say in Brooklyn; all toasters toast toast.

    Before it was 100°C!

Ambient temperature is over 25°C! It is normal. Anyway 80°C are for sure not critical.

Of course not. It will only kill a card after some time. A year or 2 if you don't play much.

Good old 3DMark 2001 used to crash with unstable cards.

Just a little bit but the problem is present also @stock and from the first secs.

    Thanks. DLing the program.

    Anyway, I have an update:

I downgraded drivers (ATI Tool is very old, so I put 169.44, 178.24 gave dots too) and ATI Tool too to latest stable version (I was using latest beta)... the test is @20min. no errors, I watched @it several times and never see dots. So, perhaps, it was a driver conflict, but I'll let you know.

And for how long has it been at that temperature?

80ºC in a card is like smoking cigarettes. It might kill you or not, and most people don't care until it happens.

i have to ask but do you know what ure on about ??

these gpus are designed to run up to 110c so runing at 80c aint that hot and can/could run for many many years at that heat. these card are designed to run at that heat it is totaly normal and is not an issue. take the 8800 ultra that ran at over 90c in games most of the time and some people still have them not and some of them even run up to 100c most of the time.

in other words its the nature of the cards
