pls dont kill me if this is not true http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/4/8/ati-partners-can-and-will-make-a-radeon-hd4890-x2.aspx
Site (Dutch): http://www.hardware.info/nl-NL/news/ymiclpqRwpaab5Y/AMD_geeft_groen_licht_voor_HD4890_X2/ Interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gyzY_-42N0&feature=rec-HM-exp_stronger_rn Title: AMD gives green licht for HD 4890 X2
Kinda not worth it though.... at least IMO. Especially if you already own a 4870 x2. I can't see it being much faster as the 4890 is just a higher clocked 4870. Unless they have some trick up their sleeves.
hmm maybe my new gfx, or should i wait for 5870x2 hmm but damn a palit radeon sonic hd4890x2 sure would be nice p.s good news guys started building my corei7 build so if any of u here have had any exp with x58 chipset from gigabyte pls tell
After seeing that youtube video above that article is contradicting what was stated. The guy was clearly hinting at a 4890X2.
zero-cool: Yeah... but with the current 4870 x2 just slightly cheaper than the GTX 295 IIRC, i don't see them releasing the 4890 x2 at about the same price.... unless they kick the 4870 x2 to the curb, which would probably piss off quite a few owners of the card.
Indeed it would. If this would be true I would hope that ATI or the board partners allow for a step up program so that us 4870x2 owners can part exchange our cards and maybe pay a little extra for a 4890x2 but this is highly doubtful.
Hehe that would be a nice deal, but if it is anything like Evga prices then I would probably pass This 4890x2 is bad for the 2nd hand market, and the value of the X2 for sure.. but could also be nice for them who might consider quad ( though it has been proven again and again quad isn't working that well :x )
hmm but u are forgetting 1 thing if this card dose come out it, is not a "ati" product,it will bee saphire palit gainward asus who makes is. the sams as 4850x2 and sapphire
Wouldn't matter anyway if the drivers aren't good for it. I mean how long has the 4870 x2 been out and the drivers still aren't straightened out for it.
zero-cool: uuh... it's not very often, if ever anymore, that you see a manufacturer stray even slightly away from the reference board design. The idea of a dual-GPU card being released without ATi having a hand in the matter is absurd. Hell, i think the only serious modification to a reference design that i've seen lately was i believe Asus made one version of one video card (note: ONE type) that was flipped around.... so the GPU and memory and everything was on the not-so-usual side that we've grown to know and love. And i think that was back in the NVidia 7-series. Sneakers: not sure what you mean "if it's anything like eVGA's prices". in eVGA's step-up program, your card doesn't lose value. If you decide to step up from say a GTX 280 that you paid say $400 for, to a GTX 295 that is listed on eVGA's website for say $550, and your GTX 280 is shown on eVGA's website for $300, your card is still worth $400 for the Step-Up program, no matter what e-tailer or retailer you purchased it from. all you'd have to pay is the $150 difference, and the shipping.
ATI has said they have no interest in even attempting a 4890X2 anytime soon and they actually "forbid" any 3rd party from trying. http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/...for_New_Dual_Chip_Flagship_Graphics_Card.html
