182.47 drivers

    Here lately I've been extracting the files and removing the damn physx crap and then installing them... I've not found a big benefit for it yet in my gaming performance so ohh well. Its time they allow us to download that alone if we need it or want it.

    Great for me!

    OK. So I have 2 GTX 260/216's in SLI, and in the third slot a QuadroFX 3700 for work (also used as Physx card). Drivers are incompatible. As a result I have two vista installations to seperate the drivers. So I have to restart and choose the other windows installation to change from work to play.
    I always wondered why Nvidia didn't realize people would be using the 3 PCI-E slots to make hybrid comps that do both work and play. I wished I had a multi-driver that allowed Quadro and Geforce to both work. It seems they are doing that now! So yay. But i'm not getting rid of my friggin partition and moving everything. Too late for that.

    I think they are already doing that cause I havent really noticed any difference in the last 20 drivers in COD4.LOL It has always played great and about the same for over a year now.:)

    That would be because most driver updates are aimed at GT200 based cards, the G92 has already reached it's maximum potential. The only updates in new drivers for G92 based cards now is normally stability or compatibility updates.

    I have no issues with the card throttling down, however after a 3D App it may take an hour for this to occur. On start up the card is always in power saving clocks.

    same here... sometiems its quite slow to downclock but eventually it goes to 2D clocks. And always 2D clocks at startup.

    I have a button in my taskbar.I just clk on it and my card shuts down completely and run on the onboard only.:)

    sometimes it works sometimes it stays at the 3d clocks and i have to reboot to fix

    Mind sharing how this shorcut works? I have never dropped to 2d clocks; I do have a 2nd monitor hooked up but it's disabled most of the time.

    Also, the stuttering problems in Company of Heroes have been fixed so thanks Nvidia. Not sure when they were fixed but I'm pretty sure 182.08 still had them.

    Thats pretty wrong... sorry.

    There are optimisations for games (the engines), chips (like you mention: G92/GT200 or such) and also MultiGPU, CPU assist and operating system dependent work.

    Such a driver is much more, than optimizing on some chips!
    Its not that simple, you told us - which is likely only a small part of driver delelopment...

    So I've seen some exclusive performance gains with 182.4x on WinXP and an 'old' 8800GT:

    LedHed: eer.... as it was stated before.... it's not like there's a serious difference between the .46's and .47's. if the .47's are out, why not use those. either way, you'd be using something seriously not releasable.

    edmodel: like digital demon said, he has a motherboard that supports Hybrid-SLI (i.e. it's a motherboard with an on-board graphics card, as well as the ability to install one or two dedicated graphics cards. When not gaming, he can disable the video cards completely, and run on the on-board graphics chip, reducing heat generation and power use.

    And you're ALWAYS dropping into 2d clocks. 2d clocks = desktop environment. 3d clocks = gaming. When graphics performance is needed, the video card automatically jumps up to it's actual clock speeds. When at the desktop, it throttles the clock speeds back to what is set for 2d mode. Basically the same concept as Hybrid-SLI, but not even remotely close to being as effective on both the power usage and heat generation.

    but gpu-z always shows the clocks as being at their highest, I'm pretty sure it's not downclocking.

    Are you looking at the graphics card tab or the sensors tab in GPU-Z?
    The graphics tab is always going to show what the high power 3D clocks are
    whereas the sensor tab shows the current clocks.
