    Not working for me... :(
4870 with Catalyst 9.1 (but the shaders are working!)

    MPC HC settings:
    start in fullscreen is checked
    Output: VMR9 renderless, 3D surface bicubic (PS2)
    Internal filter: Matroska is checked

    What is wrong?

It Didn`t Work for me the part of the shaders :(

I did all the things that said in the article, but when i try to enable the shaders the option is desactivated :(

PD: Im Using vista Ultimate 64x and a 9800gtx+... maybe is driver related?

Fixed: I Forgot To Activate the Directx9 option in the output tab. It was on System Default.

you need the latest Nvidia beta drivers 182.05 for that.

I've been using the MPC-HC's DXVA acceleration solution for long time now.

today I tested CoreAVC 1.9 with CUDA on driver 182.05 and it works!

no need for mpc-hc anymore as it works with any player compatible with external codecs - including Windows Media Center :)

anyway, I'm kinda used to MPC-HC so i'll keep it for now...

The latest whql is 181.22. The article dind´t say anything about beta drivers. I think beta drivers are not the #1 joice for most people and are not recommended for dxva, or is it?

CoreAVC 1.9 and the beta driver has nothing to do with the MPC-HC article.
its just a codec using CUDA for GPU acceleration.

MPC-HC uses internal codec with DXVA for GPU acceleration. no beta driver needed.

and btw, the new beta driver 182.05 is WHQL Candidate,
so the next WHQL official should be the same one...

Yes I know. I was refering to gugu´s post. You were just a little bit faster than I was ;).

I just wanted to know if I have to use the beta drivers to use the dxva like mentioned in the article or if the latest whql do it as well.

    Nevermind...Found the problem.
I had to unregister vsfilter.dll and it works now. 1080p WMC-HC using about 7-8% CPU. Only problem is I have to find an alternative program to see subtitles(and I mean all formats...srt,sub etc.).
    Any recomandations?

DXVA acceleration was added to MPC-HC in version 1.1.1.0, on 5 March 2008.

meaning even 1 years old driver should work just fine. :)

Hilbert you mention .mkv is a very common container for h.264? I don't really see that, the large majority of h.264 stuff I download uses the .mp4 container, often combined with AAC audio.

I do have a couple 1080p movies that use mkv with h.264 and AC3 audio, but not nearly as many as in mp4.

Haven't really played with DXVA as I use BSplayer for all my stuff which I guess doesn't directly support it, tho maybe thru coreAVC/cuda. I just much prefer BSplayers interface.

BTW where do you download 1080p mkv trailers? The only 1080p trailers I know about are apples quicktime ones (mov container)

Doesn't work for me.... specs are on the side

I just used some mkv trailers from azureus HD library ... and ... nothing works ... i don't even know where to get full HD as this surely isn't

There is no good example of FULL HD MKV ... only what is are crap 50 MB trailers some in mp4 and mov...

ahh found one , final fantasy XIII trailer works ... but's that's not even close to FULL HD .... anyways so my settings are ok ... and i'll see if shaders make a difference ..

that oter mkv probably are converted or compressed or whatever and don't contain x.264

NEED Help my movie doesnt synch

hi there i have been using MPC long time now, this article thought gave me a good idea about compined shaders.

BUT i have 2 questions for the writer or anyone who knows:

1)i used to have the FFdshow Sharpen Filtering enable in my movies (unsharp mask mode x24 to be exactly) if i use the sharpen shaders you suggested is it better in quality than my previous one?

2)when i enable LG32 5000 HDTV with HDMI cable i use up to 1360x768x60hz (if i remember corectly) resolutions.
the problem is that in my TV and in this resolution its a VERY noticable playback Corraption if i HAve VMR9 renderless Enabled!
in fast cammera movements my screen gets Horizontal lines(cuts), i dont know how else to explain it! its just like it cant synch the movie, it happens for milliseconds but in fast action movies its very announg!

if i choose OverlayMixer mode output, i loose a little in quality (still have DX accelleration thought) but the movie Synch perfect!

why is this happening i want to have the same quality i get in my monitor in my TV too.

plz help me need your advice!

    tnx alot

3)just found than if i enable DXVA in filter transforms i cant playback anything that is HD264! wtf????

I use VLC all the time to watch HD files and I have never experienced lag.

dude i dont think a p4 can decode 1080 ... its too much data flow

I dont get it, you all say VLC has problems with 1080 but I can watch 1080 with it just fine. I just tried it on the matrix and it was fine. No lag or anything.

I've used this before but the internal video decoder (gpu or not) on MPCHC isn't as good as CoreAVC for image quality. Motion isn't handled as well and it's not quite as sharp... also the colour space detection is more reliable with CoreAVC. You can just flip the 16-255 shader on if it's incorrect. Using MPC's decoder can leave some videos washed out.

I'll take slightly better IQ and 15% processor useage over slightly less cpu utilisation.. over less CPU usege.
You can use the shaders without gpu offloading (as long as you have EVr or VMR9) ... and the combine works fine on my crappy 2600XT (along with bicubic 1.00 PS2 EVR renderer with 5 buffered frames) so no one without anything better should have a problem.

BTW... VLC looks like blurry ass compared to MPC with EVR Bicubic. It's night and day, especially when you upscale low res videos.

just got into HD content last week (literally) with a solid midrange system

    AMD 5600+ X2 @3.2
    4gb DDR2 800
    9800GT
    xp32 sp3

and now it all plays beautifully. screw xvid. i'm a bluray man now, this article helped a lot.
