Badaboom can transcode video files over the GPU. Once you transcode over the GPU instead of over the CPU the speedup is significant. The software still is in development stages but once released and... More...
Ok a few things about Badaboom (I've used it s a few times). First, the lack of format support is really daunting. I mean really? no mpeg4 support??? It's not free. It should be free. It IS really fast though... When they make it free & make is support any video format then we can start using this instead of good ol Handbrake. Until then it's pretty much a POS novelty to say "Oh look I'm using my GPU for general purpose stuff"
Meh, I'm gonna stick with handbrake >< For one I hate having to switch out of SLI mode every time I launch it, plus one GTX260 is only a little faster at doing it than my CPU anyway And didn't NV add a command or something into their drivers a while back that let programs switch SLI on/off on their own? Don't see why badaboom can't just use that
I thought badaboom was fast till my friend, who is like an expert in encoding, showed me how to do command line x264 encoding. I can get 70+fps on my dual core processor with similar quality. I'm not so impressed anymore.
its not free, and therefore no use to me, especially with its overly flashy interface rather than having a funcional geeky advanced/non flashy gui option that would allow bulk conversions
+1 Although I can understand it not being free. I daresay it'll be at least a year before an open source alternative appears with CUDA support, can't blame them for trying to get some cash for their work in the meantime.
just tried this and it says *CPU Decode when its processing and my cpu usage on one core is 100% for badaboom wtf?
That's because it decodes the video with your processor and encodes it with you video card. And even when its encoding it still uses a lot of CPU power due to overhead. http://filehippo.com/download_any_video_converter/ I find that to be the easiest most broad video converter for those that don't have nvidia cards.
