    Revision - SD15

Dont want to brick my drives to much data on them.

I would not use this firmware on any drive yet. Looks like different drives are affected with deaths after updating...

    7000 posts yay...

I can't believe they first tell the world that majority of their recent drives are broken and then when everyone is panicking they release a "fix" that manages to kill the healthy remaining ones off... Shambles!

!DO NOT USE THIS FIRMWARE UPDATE!

I tried it on my ST3500320AS SD15, the update went smoothly until i booted back up again.. I get a "Disk Boot Failure". I booted from my XP cd to see if i could reinstall Windows but no luck.. Setup detected the drive but said it could'nt use it.

So am I SOL or what? any suggestions?

If it's detected in the BIOS you should be able to reflash it, but if it's the drive your OS is on well........that will be a bit harder of course.

Luckily mine was my mass storage drive so I'll prob wait till they come out with another fw update...

I had to reload a few times before I got through - their server is probably running red-hot atm.

Guess it would depend on your drive - not if it's a 500GB imho..... seems the drive doesn't like the firmware.

The firmware has been taken offline by Seagate for "validation", go figure... The site for the SD1A firmware is here

Same here.. Luckily I had backed up my data before doing the flash. Seagate had better provide a solution or there are gonna A LOT of angry people.. mind you there are already.. check this thread, 9 pages and counting..

I'm in the same boat. But they're not really dead as long as it's detected in the BIOS it's still flashable, and your data should will be there. I'm sure if we can find the SD15 firmware we can reflash it back untill Seagate come out with another update.

BTW does anyone have the SD15 FW they wouldn't mind uploading?

Both my Seagate drives are ST3640323AS, so I guess I'm safe.

Though when some programs are running at the same time I'm playing music off one of those drives it skips a split second here and there. I'm not sure if this is a problem with Winamp specifically or if it's a problem with the hard drives. It never happened in the past with my 500GB WD drive.

Try increasing your buffer - it's in preferences>plug ins>output. Are you using Directsound Wave out or ASIO?

btw I flashed my 500GB 7200.11 with the new fw and it un-bricked it.
