Experience. After upgrading to catalyst version 8.9-8.12 from 8.8, every one of them refuses to overdrive the slave card. I can return to the 8.8 and previous releases any time and it works properly in 3D apps.

Also in my attempts to find an answer, I've seen a few quotes like this in post #10.

    http://www.vgaforum.com/showthread.php?t=15922

My question then is if it's officially not supported, why did it work up until 3-4 months ago?

Its not so easy :) I don't have XP at home, at work. All our computers has Vista installed.
With your configuration Vista will be much better than XP :)

Noticed a bug: Even if the checkbox next to the clock values in the overclocking menu (the one with fan tab) is not checked, the clock values still get applied.

Also, after uninstalling CCC and using ATT exclusively for everything (including fan controls), everything ran very unstable and even Vista's gadget panel crashed (even though temperatures were well within limits).

Once I installed CCC back and reinstalled ATT with overclocking feature disabled, everything runs very stable again.

My video card does not have stock ATI clocks though. I have HIS HD4870 Turbo 512MB, which is factory overclocked, so maybe ATT did not read some settings correctly and that had something to do with all the crashes.

    Why do you think so?

Don't tell me this because I use ATT without CCC and have no problems. Better check what are you doing wrong.

I was monitoring with EVEREST and even with the checkbox unchecked, I was seing the clock settings set by default (which are lower than my stock settings). As I adjusted the top slider and clicked apply (with the checkbox still unchecked), the new settings were applied and I saw the change in EVEREST.

The only thing I did was go into the overclocking menu and changed the fan settings. I also saved the profile and checked the checkbox that says whether to load the profile or startup. I did monitor the temperatures closely, so that was not the cause of the crash.

Like I said, my card is stock overclocked, so perhaps they used custom voltage settings as well - I tried to find this part out, but I could not find any info on this. If ATT applied normal voltages, just like it did with the clocks, then maybe this could be the cause of the crash? Still weird because if anything ATT did was underclock the card, so if voltage got decreased as well then it still should not cause any problems...

What I see with EVEREST when CCC is controlling the card is that in 2D mode, the GPU clock is set to 500 MHz, once I start any 3D application at all, the GPU clock gets increased to 780 MHz. Unfortunately, I cannot see any GPU voltage settings.

//Edit: I also checked the HD 4xxx RAM fix checkbox during the install.

Some of the EVEREST data on the card:

Man, use search. I wrote about it already! Because original voltage reported by driver is not equal voltage sets by BIOS, when you just apply FAN , ATT will apply clocks too. because it checks current voltage and voltage you select in drop down list.

What do you mean, you can not see???

Without knowing that fan settings is what caused the problem, would be hard to find something to search for, wouldn't it?

As for the voltage, I meant I cannot find out what the voltage of my card is - EVEREST does not show it either.

ATT 1.6.9.1374: Apps crash when ATT is running

    Hi,

Does anyone know why some applications crash in Vista 32bit with ATT 1.6.9.1374 running? When I close the ATT, the apps start fine without crashing.

Here are some examples of these crashing apps:

    - Almost all Vista (Ultimate) installed default games (e.g. Solitaire)
    - javaw.exe and java.exe (latest JRE 1.6 upd 11)
    - skype.exe (latest)

I have managed to go around the problem by adding all these crashing executables to ATT exception list, but I am just wondering why so many of the apps crash when ATT is running.

I have ATI display drivers 8.12 installed only, no CCC installed. My card is Sapphire HD 4870 512MB.

    Best regards,
    Sami

    hi ray,

mcafee detects the downloaded Ati Tray tools setup file as "newmalware.bm trojan" is it a false alarm or something is wrong with the installer!

This is something wrong with MCafee :)

2 spheikki - I have no problem at all. Do you have any kind of antivirus or firewall applications? This is definitely something with your software

memory clock reported as doubled with my Sapphire X1650Pro AGP

    Hi Ray,

I like to use ATT on all my computers. However, recently, I've had an issue using it to overclock my card in an older computer. It's using a Sapphire X1650 PRO 512M DDR2 AGP VGA/TVO/DVI-I and the latest beta ATT (v. 1.6.9.1374). The issue, which I've seen mentioned before but still seems to be present, is that the memory clock speed is reported as double what it is set to be, and when I tell ATT to apply the settings, it tries to apply the doubled clock (which usually results in locking up the computer). I can get around it by always halving the clock (to its proper value) manually before hitting "apply", but it's annoying to have to do it all the time. Also, I haven't tried it yet, but I suspect that I'd have to half it again when saving an overclock profile for the correct value to be applied when loading a profile.

The following is the system info report from ATT:

    strange but true

Yeah, I saw that the double-clock issue had been mentioned before and that you had released a fix for it. But, unfortunately, it seems to still be there or has come back again.

As an aside, I also noticed that when changing the fan speed, the clocks must be getting updated as well. When I tried changing the fan speed alone (without halving the memory clock back to its correct value) the computer would lock up with a bunch of display corruption. This is not really a problem for me, just an observation.

I have managed to successfully automatically overclock the card by applying a memory clock of half what it's supposed to be set to and then saving the profile (so that when the profile is restored, the memory clock value is correct and not the doubled one).
