I got my 8800GTX a month after its release and I have to say it is one of the best investments I have every made in the computer world. I enjoyed it then and I am enjoying it now!
I think that may well be the best best in this thread so far. That's all we really care about. A 600$ investment two years ago and it still works fine. Assuming someone bought it upon release; that's 600/24=25. That means you spent 25$ a month for performance that is still top of the line. Let's say the 8800GTX gets 100 fps in a game. You upgrade to a 9800GTX+ or a 4850 and you get 120. That's a 20% increase in performance for an additional 33% investment. And that's really an ideal situation with the 20% performance... I'm clearly not gonna bother doing this with a GTX280 since performance varies from game to game... But I can tell you all for a fact. If you a buy a GTX280 now, and keep it for two years... You're in for a slideshow for future games
I bought my 8800GTS 320 1.5 year ago and I look at the new cards and the only one that appeals to me is the 4870X2 and even then I am not going to upgrade yet. The only time I lag slightly in games is in COD 4 with heavily smoke filled area's. The lag isn't much and I don't tear. My daughters 7600GT is about to die, she's getting strange anomalies. The other 7600GT we had died a few months ago after working fine for two years. The one she has now is over 2.5 years old. I loved the 7600GT when it was first released. I upgraded from a 6600GT and the performance gain in Serious Sam II was amazing. I was able to run everything maxed out without a problem, ever. Now the card can't run COD 4 without having everything turned down and looking really ugly. But does it matter? The card is ancient. I just read what I've written and it's odd, with those really short sentences. I'm sleepy so not going to correct it. In the end, if it works and you're happy then that's all that matters, though as far as I care the 8800 series have been the best nVidia have ever made.
true. i had to upgrade from a 5900ultra, 6800gt and 7900gt in almost the same time ive had my 8800. best value ever
yeah but the one card that overclocks highest is only about %10 at the most slower than running sli at the slower cards clocks
i have had my 8800gtx since day one when they got released ;-), no problems at all. but i will get a NEW Rig next year, when my money is coming in as i have set up on my own doing IT & PC Support ;-)..... .
I like it so much, I bought another one and am pretty much on par with GTX280 performance Good to go for at least another year!
well i dont have a GTX but my 8800GT( OC'd ) is able to play pretty much everything i own maxed out at 1680x1080 with AA( except Crysis of course ), Grid on Ultra, even CoD when i play it on my 40" 1080p HDTV averages ~43FPS I dont think its anything to do with the gfx cards though, its all down to the limitations of the consoles and the fact that we guys gaming on PC's are getting ports. I would say at least 90% of AAA PC games are ports and the only differences between the PC versions and consoles usually is just higher resolutions, maybe textures and the ability to add some AA, the engines are the same( usually UE3 ). I honestly dont see how Nvidia and ATI can keep selling top end gfx cards for the average PC enthusiast when we get mostly ports, fine if youve got a wall of LCD's but most of us are gaming at 1280x1024 or 1680x1050
I've always been very quick to update my hardware to keep up with the latest games but as you can see by my specs the only thing i've updated in the last 18 months is another 8800GTX and that was added to play Crysis Warhead, even though one card played it ok, i think it was a bit of a struggle. I will wait until next year for my next major hardware updates and that will only be if I need too.
Hi, sorry for my english. I play cod4, doom3(anyone for deathmatch? ) little quake4, bf2, bioshock, fear, grid... All this games runs like a dream with the latest drivers.. except crysis lol... hey guys, iam waiting for RAGE FC2 DOOM4 to make the best possible changes to my system (yes iam sure i take new pc next time for this games lol)...
This is weird, or really obvious! hi guys, Just wanna say i built a rig around 2 months ago and i stuck a WC 8800GTX from BFG, and i dont get what people mean by overclocking it to 621...mine was STOCK at 650/1500...and i can overclock it to 975/2250! But at the moment its currently UNDERCLOCKED to 610/1407 because my 570watt PSU cant cope, so once i start a game like crysis or GTA4 and the graphics card is on default settings i get increasing artifacts followed by a BSOD...hopefully i might get a new PSU today
Best life span of a graphics card ever, people who bought it at launch and still have now are so very lucky!
The purpose was that i wanted to find out wether My GPU was factory overclocked, because everyone is saying how they've overclocked it to 621 etc. If so that maybe why im getting BSOD's, though iv heard it can be due to lack of power. No harm done! Oh and am i the only one getting lag on GTA4? it seems to start to lag/go choppy once i decide to put any draw distance or shadowing on! its insane! crysis also runs on 1280 x 800 with AA on 4, any more and ill get a BSOD! How do people find Farcry 2 running? im tempted to get it but i fear it may lag! Thanks! (hope this had more purpose than the old one? )
