    Driver Installation

Excuse me for a stupid question but should I simply install the new driver over my current driver or should I uninstall the current driver and then install the new one ???

I'd recommend to always follow this procedure, kingsface:

    1. Uninstall your current driver.
    2. Restart and boot into safe mode (F8).
    3. Run Driver Sweeper and maybe even CCleaner.
    4. Restart and boot to the regular desktop.
    5. Install the new driver.
    6. Restart.

I probably should have posted here first instead of updating an old thread. Sorry about that. (see above) But I want to say that the beta 180.84 seems to run my Fallout 3 much better than previous 180.xx drivers. Flicker and stuttering have, for the most part, stopped. FPS is way way up. GTA IV runs about the same on them though. If I crash again, I'll post again to this thread.

BTW, is there a way to remove my distracting post (Horrible Fallout 3 performance with 180.xx drivers)?

180.84 , should be the latest dated Dec 2nd They were distributed with GTA IV in mnd. From what I've read on some forums, lots of people have had good results with them. But GTA IV plays about the same with my system.

These drivers consistantly cause my machine to bluescreen.

Swept the drivers and re-installed them twice. Same result.

Rolled back to the 60's, and they run just fine.

180.84beta3 is horrible for Crysis Warhead. 180.48 and 180.70 performed great and 180.84beta3 is abbsolutely unplayable with the same settings.

    Does anyone else experience this?

FOUND ON GAMESPOT FORUM: MemLeak issues??

To fix this, download Systweak CacheBoost and optimize your RAM and empty it's cache. Keep this program running while you play GTA4. It worked for me. This program will essentially lock your RAM and keep the textures loaded and they will not leak away.

Due to this I went from having no textures present at even the lowest settings to having full textures at max settings even with 3 times the amount of vram I had being used. Rockstar failed at this poor port. I've only heard of maybe one other game with a RAM leakage issue.

I haven't tried this... because my game keeps quiting anyways... I might wait for WHQL.. go back 2 180.48 or wait for gta4 patch :puke2:

All cache optimization programs only have to be run once to optimize, you don't have to start the programs everytime you run windows in order to utilize it. Meaning the guy above has no idea what he is talking about.

Also he talks about VRAM when cache is referring to RAM. Also I have experienced no memory leaks in GTA IV, I don't know why some people claim there are issues.

[spoiler: well TPB gave me a little help :nerd:]

What I can say for now... I (maybe placebo, will test tommorow) but looks smoother... but doesn't solve my sudden quit problem after 15-45min :3eyes:
