Hello, googling around I guess I found them.
    The URL is this: http://www.asustreiber.de/index.php/downloads/download/851-8-56-5rc2_072201e_vista_asus

Can anyone pls modify the .inf file or whatever to support standard x4870x2, x4870, x4850, etc.?

I know how to do it with nVidia drivers but not with these...

The file to modify as you prolly know (I didn't though) is this:
    CL_72201.inf

Now I will look into 8.11 and the entries accordingly. ;)

OK, I added the stuff relatives to these videocards:
    ATI Radeon HD 4550
    ATI Radeon HD 4650
    ATI Radeon HD 4670
    ATI Radeon HD 4800
    ATI Radeon HD 4800
    ATI Radeon HD 4870

Now I'm going to install them.

OK, I tried them and they work.
I installed the drivers through the device manager after uninstalling the old ones.
The problem in world of warcraft concerning flickering when shadow lvl is set to max has been solved.
    Now I will run 3DMARK.

If you wanna try these drivers, save the file CL_72201.inf as CL_72201.inf.old.

Download this file and rename it as CL_72201.inf, then place it in the same directory as the original.

Install the drivers through device manager and you're done!

Now I'm gonna see how these drivers perform in 3d mark 2006. I don't have other games than WOW installed at the moment unfortunately.

MMM, looks like crossfire is not on (prolly that's why I didn't get flickering) and I'm getting issues with rivatuner. It simply doesn't overclock the card and it takes some time to switch through the tabs... :\

Hmm, tried your modded .inf and it's somehow not working for me (Vista Ultimate 64-bit). It says I'm already using the newest drivers. Which I actually don't, of course, since I've just uninstalled the 8.11 ones. Any clues? Cheers!

I cannot get the crossfire to work with my x4870x2 but single card works at least on windows vista 32 bit.
For Vista 64 bit the directory is different. You have to go into LH6A_INF instead of LH_INF. ;)

How did you get Catalyst Control Center working? not having any luck here =( The inf worked however as the display driver is installed.

These drivers won't install for me on Vista Ultimate x64. So I guess I will as well.

The drivers are still there. I'm downloading them now. Probably the server was just too busy before. I guess I'll try em.

How exactly do you install these via the Device manager? I tried googling for it, but I couldn't find anything.

Nevermind, I figured it out. There's a problem, though: the INF I downloaded from one of the later posts that was supposedly pre-modified to suit the 4800 won't install. It says it doesn't contain information about my hardware.

Can you please explain to me why someone would have to do this?? Why would ati release a driver that required a person to have to change internal file names??

Because this driver was only released with support in mind for mobile chipsets and older chipsets, as far as I can tell from looking at the INF that comes with the drivers.

So maybe this driver is not meant for the 4870 yet?? Doesn't this have to be the case?? If not then wht would of Ati have done this??

The official ATI 8.12 Cat's are supposed to add Stream to the HD4xxx cards....so, obviously that driver is NOT the ATI 8.12 Cat's. That driver, according to it's download screen, is for Mobile IGP's only.
